working class hero If only Guthrie had played more we'd be looking to play in Europe....NOT.
Quite why he is so lionised baffles me. He did little... Then perhaps his poor little overpaid head wasn't quite right?

Same could be said for Ledge, this season he has been constantly poor

I think you'll find most blame Briam for bringing him to the club in the first place as one of our 'marquee' signings with the intention of improving our squad to the point where it could compete.

Everyone on here have been claiming McD was at fault for not playing him, and made it sound like if only we'd played him more we'd be cruising.
Now that he played he looked distinctly shit.

Like most of them today then

My problem has been the lack of quality signings and the ones we have signed haven't even got on the pitch

The rest of them haven't been built up like they're the new Xavi.

Most of you are a bunch of oxf*rd oxf*rd. What did you really expect today?
Grow the oxf*rd up. It's one game, away at a club that have ALWAYS made us look stupid, with only a week and a bit for boss to assess what he's working with.

We'll probably contend for promotion next year, you over-reactionary oxf*rd.

You should go to facebook if you really want an over reaction , sometimes I despair at the IQ of the average Reading fan.

winchester_royal Reading fans are complete mongs. 'It's like having Rodgers back' someone said behind me after we tried to keep the ball for longer than 5 seconds.

I think that's a fair assessment, in both instances a manager tried to implement a passing style on players that aren't comfortable with it, Leigertwood at Mariappa both made some shocking passes deep in our own half the later leading to a penalty.

Of course Rogers was playing average Championship sides not Arsenal and admits he tried to change too much too soon, I'm sure Adkins' will fare better.

A fair assessment after one game? One game? Really?

No, I mean, seriously?

The self flagellation on here is ridiculous. We're not the only club with fans like that but you'd have thought we were the way you lot go on.

It was all so predictable, been like a bomb waiting to go off immediately we lost to Arsenal which was always going to happen.

Fair assessment? Because we tried to keep the ball for a few seconds to give the guys a breather before we inevitably hoof it long and lose it? We're basing this assessment on a performance that came after only 3 days of training?

Fuck a duck.

Kingsley Junior I didn't think today was all that bad tbh. I'm not sure what people are expecting really. Arsenal can be a bit lightweight at times and inconsistent, but when they are good, they are very, very good. And today was one of those days. Meanwhile, we had a team made up of the same players that have been not quite up to this level for large parts of the season...

I felt there were positives, definitely. We started well the first few minutes, we had a few good spells during the game. We tried to pass it more, perhaps in areas where we were never going to do Arsenal any harm but it's something to build off. The key thing for me was that the players were visibly trying something asked of them by a manager who has been their boss less than a week. They are obviously receptive to his ideas, and that is going to be important going forward. No, I did not particularly enjoy watching us get mostly outplayed for 90 minutes, but I pretty much expected it when I bought my ticket. We needed Arsenal to have an off day to have a hope of getting something out of the game, and I was happy to at least get a goal and show some fight.

As I recall, our much better "106 team" lost 4-0 at home to Arsenal in our first season up. I don't think our results against Arsenal are really any kind of barometer of where we are at. The Wigan result today probably makes our next 7 games largely meaningless, but I'm very optimistic about next season. Large numbers of players that got us up before, some new faces likely to be brought in too, and a manager who has four promotions on his record in the last six or so years.

That Arsenal team had Henry, Fabregas and RVP in it. This one has Gervinho, Ramsey and Giroud.

That Arsenal team also had Hoyte, Djourou and Hleb, this one also had Cazorla who would walk into that RVP team... I get your point, but our better side lost to a better Arsenal side, our lesser side lost to a (not as lesser as some would have you believe) Arsenal side by a slightly smaller margin... losing to Arsenal is not a measure of how good we are now, our team that came 8th would have lost comfortably today, Henry and Fabregas or Arteta and Cazorla. I just think there has been far too much of a negative reaction to today. We have spent less than every other team in the league as far as I can tell and were starting from a base of Championship players - we have no divine right to finish higher than 20th. Maybe we should therefore have spent more, yes, but it seems people expect miracles. We will go back down, we will come back up, and hopefully we will come back with some lessons learned. That's as much as this club can reasonably expect for now.

The miracle would be learning a lesson. We didn't learn from 4 years ago why would we learn this time?

Yep lessons learned, just like the last time. we do well against the so called big boys don`t we?, what is it so far 1 point against Chelsea? compare that to Southampton, who might I remnd you finshed runners up last year, they have beaten Chelsea, Liverpool. City and drawn with Arsenal, there lies the difference between lessons learnt and plain ignorance
