Ideal
St. Brynjar Danny Guthrie is ..poor.....I do think if Guthrie... had started every game this season we'd be noticeably higher up the table.

I have to face my Arsenal-supporting colleague at work on Tuesday, not looking forward to it!

In deference to Arsenal, if they had played this well all season, they might have been challenging Manchester United.

That 3rd goal is possibly the worst goal we've conceded all season.

If Guthrie had actually looked where he was passing the ball. Absolute shambles!!

Not really, heard Bill Oddie and one bout of Nigel Adkins blue and white army, bit of left side stuff etc. I'm surprised I never heard the old we'll never play you again. Was there something going between the "left" side and the goons?

I Thought the whole atmosphere was pretty dire, saw the the "club" tier as I walked out,it is more like an all inclusive hotel, table football and hockey, focaccia stands and haute cuisine.

Hope we don't become that.

Hey at least we scored.

We were never going to get better than a 2-0 defeat.

Guthrie's a dick. But when he played we did ok. If he keeps us up, great. When he doesn't I say gt rid ASAP unless Nige can turn him into an adult.

Those who watched he match, hat were we like? We made ourselves believe that Dolan had somehow instilled a different style of playing against Man U so what about Adkins? Any noticeable differences?

I was up with the Arsenal fans and they were shocking. We took a good away crowd which was commented on. Just like last time I was there (2007) The only time they really made any noise was when a pass went wrong, or an attack broke down and they were massively on the team's case. And the stadium emptied 10 minutes to go. I won't ever have a bad word said about the atmosphere and the fans at the Madejski. Utter arrogant wankers.

Schards#2
paultheroyal That really was not good and what was really clear is that fans need to be patient over next 9 months. Reminiscent of Rodgers fateful era but this time around money and lots of it needs to be spent on a squad overhaul. Adkins is the right man to take us back up and just hope fans allow him to do that.Impressive stadium but lacking atmosphere.
Drayton Arms ok.
Reading fans arguing amongst themselves again and getting kicked out.
Decent game of sit down and stand up with stewards.

Quite depressing after game hearing Arsenal fans say that is worst away performance seen by a team for many a year. Yep it was that bad.

We really have made a total pigs ear of this Premier League campaign.

I logged on with the intention of saying that, virtually, word for word.

It's clear that Adkins wants to impose a passing game on the team with immediate effect, so we will be playing with the worst squad in the division and trying to play a new system that is pretty alien to them. As such I don't think it's out of the question that we won't gain a single point in the remainder of this season.

Reading fans are, indeed, going to need to be patient as Adkins looks to build a squad capable of playing in the style he wants, it may well take until up to around Christmas before, hopefully, we start seeing the results and I only hope the fans can man up and stick with it until than. Given that a large percentage of our fans seem to be utter bellends, I have my concerns.

I do believe Adkins starts from a better point than Rodgers with better quality in the squad and, surely, some money to spend. My hope would be that he gets the squad he wants by the start of the season rather than us treading water for the first few games waiting for the transfer window to close.

I have to agree with the above. We need to be patient but I think many fans were expecting an impact straight away.

We obviously had the mindset of passing the ball. And yes at times it was a little Rodgers-esque and some players seemed a little lost on the ball.

All season people have been moaning about the ball being hoofed up the pitch.... Yesterday when we tried to pass the thing I genuinely heard people calling for it to be lumped up the park.

Relax guys....As per usual I think we're all going into a self flagellating tail spin here.

We don't need to replace the entire team and we don't need to completely change the way we play, we just need a bit more focus on certain aspects of the game. ie a more passing and retaining game. We have a pretty good (actually if we retain most of it, an excellent) spine of a team to compete for promotion next year, and as a club we'll have learnt (the hard way) about what is needed to compete at PL level.

Loved how about 5 people behind me at the back of the stand started chanting 'nigel, give us a wave, nigel nigel...' and he actually heard it!

The match itself was like an atack vs defence training exercise. Arsenal were unbelievably good. Though 2 of the goals were just dreadful to give away. Overall it was an embarresment.

One positive was our conversion rate, 2 shots 1 goal :D

Less said about the performance, the better.

Saw quite a few people being kicked out. Big police presence.

Big Ern It amazes me the lengths some will go to support Guthrie. Let's put this into perspective, he was a free transfer after being a bit-part player for Newcastle last year. If he really was the white Pele as some on here must believe, then he would have either been offered a huge contract at Newcastle or would have gone to a top Prem team.....not to little old Reading.

What is without doubt though is his attitude which absolutely stinks. This puts more attention on his performances as he needs to compensate his bad attitude with outstanding performances, which he simply does not deliver.

Doesn't help that people constantly make excuses for him.

...... just like you and Federici then.

No, that's far too harsh. He needs to build some hard work into his play- I would suspect that's the reason Brian didn't play him. He's not good enough or influential enough to be a "number 10" so he needs to do all the unpleasant stuff as well - closing down, tackling, shape etc
