Sal Bibbo appreciation thread

by West_Reading » 14 Apr 2013 09:41

A thread just to highlight and applaud the brilliant work Bibbo's been doing for a long time now. Federici, McCarthy, Taylor & Andersen are as good a goalkeeping quartet as you will get anywhere. Our keeping department has been incredibly strong for a long time now, since Phil Whitehead. After Shaka there was a period of about 4/5 years where many keepers came and went, including Bibbo and Hammond. So who would have imagined that 15/16 years on, they would both be playing such a key role in the development of the club on and off the field respectively.

Don't tell Whore Jackie about that, in the thread McCarthy vs Federici....

Whore Jackie Irrespective of whom he opts for next season, I hope NA brings in a new goalkeeping coach. Yesterday's first goal would have been conceded by McCarthy, Feds or Hahnemann. All decent keepers, all culpable of those sorts of mistakes.

I did take them to task at that point too.

Our keeping situation at Reading is one area we have consistently excelled in. I can't remember the last time we didn't have one of the top 2 (or both) keepers at Championship level and to be fair keeping hasn't been our problem in the Prem (opening few games aside). You can't keep all 22 shots out in a game whoever you are, the defence need to do their job and reduce that number.

Well done Sal and team

Haven't bought (with money) a goalie since Hahnemann, and with McCarthy and this Alexa kid it sounds like we might not to again for a while.

Wasn't USA a free too - ie his contract had ended at Fulham or did we end up paying the usual "nominal fee"?

Hahnemann joined us on a free transfer from Fulham.

The last time we paid for a keeper was probably Phil Whitehead from WBA?
