Loan Watch 2013 - 2014

by Upper West Ginger » 15 Jun 2013 07:40

Nick Arnold to Wycombe for the season. I wonder if he will play against us in the forthcoming pre-season match?

http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article/arnold-contract-loan-140613-868433.aspx
19-year-old right-back Nick Arnold has agreed to sign a contract extension with the Royals and is set to spend next season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers.

The Academy graduate will put pen to paper on a one-year renewal with Reading and is now set to gain valuable experience of competitive first team football in League Two with the Chairboys.

A hard-working full back who is comfortable on the ball and likes to get forward, Arnold graduated from our Academy in the summer of 2011. He had made 28 starts as a regular in his last season with Eamonn Dolan’s under-18s side, to earn his first professional contract with Reading – the team he and his family have supported for years.

He went on to impress in pre-season before a groin injury interrupted his first year as a professional – but once fully fit again he made the step up to reserve team football seamlessly.

And in 2012/13 he was an ever present for our under-21s side, totting up 26 appearances and keeping clean sheets against the likes of Manchester City, Everton, Stoke, Newcastle and Norwich.

Nick is now set to link up with Gareth Ainsworth’s men when the Adams Park outfit return for pre-season training at the end of the month.

Daniel Carriço - Sevilla for a season with a view to a permanent move.

Ryan Edwards - Perth Glory until the end of 2013-14. Manager of Perth Glory is his father (former Socceroo Alistair Edwards)and his brother Cameron, who was on our books for a year in 2011/12, is also with Glory. Edwards is contracted until 2015 and the soundbites make it sound like he's planning on coming back.

Good shout, I'll be along to watch Glory at least a few times this season so will keep an eye out for him.

Ryan himself, meanwhile, is similarly thrilled to have returned to the Glory fold.

"I'm very excited to be back," he said.

"I've still got two years on my deal at Reading, so it would be good to get a full season of first-team football here and then rejoin them next year for pre-season and see what happens then.

"I've been in the Reading Under-21s, but I'm 19 now so I should be playing first team football and I think this is a good move for me to get that experience and hopefully bring it back to Reading next season.

"Originally they didn't want me to go, but it's great that they agreed and that it happened so quickly so I can join the team in heading to South Africa at the weekend. "They (Reading) are all positive about it and it's good to have their support."

Surprised that we've allowed Edwards to go on loan to the Aussie pub team. To me that sounds like the start of the end for him and perhaps a sign that we couldn't fix him up with something worthwhile in the Football League.

I'm sure his family ties are a big part of the move, but I'd say it's a bad move for him long term prospects so can't see why, unless he's homesick or accepting that he's not going to make it here, his family are possibly pushing this through.

He's always looked pretty decent when I've seen him play so it's a bit of a shame.

It is comparable to L1-L2, so it could be good for him...

Plus he is guaranteed playing time with his father as the manager

Doesn't help him prove his ability to play in the English leagues or make it easy for the club to keep tabs on him or have him come back for a few days training or the like.

There are reasons the club weren't really up for him going back to start with, and I just think being on the other side of the world is going to seriously hamper his chances of making it here.

Not a bad move, but a little disappointed that he won't be hanging around to fight for a place on the bench.Gorkks must be staying.
