Which RFC player most notably mixed ungainliness with skill?

by Cripple Creek » 27 Aug 2013 09:25

I suppose the most notable of this kind of player (non-Reading) would be the likes of Chris Waddle or Matt Le Tissier but Reading have had a few. I'm not talking ugliness here but the kind of player who walks onto the pitch and you think "jeez, he looks like he'd be a more likely candidate for spending a Saturday afternoon drinking down the Spread Eagle". For me the one that springs most notably to mind would have to be Glen Little. Looked nothing like an athlete but was, for me, one of the most joyous Reading players to watch ever (and I'm talking in 38 years of watching the team).

I enjoyed Darren Caskey's free kicks.

Manset perhaps, clearly talented, can't get his fitness sorted looks more suited to playing rugby. Those two goals v. Millwall in 2011/12...

And I love the fact that he ended his career with a club called Racing Club Warwick...

That's the winner. Not that he looked like a drinker but the way he shuffled onto the field suggested he could barely walk properly. Once he got the ball at his feet, however, f...ing brilliant.

The absolute epitomy - end of thread!

Knock-knees, gangly, bandy-legged, often looked like he was going to trip over his own legs. Skill? - well the stuff of legends.

Never has a man looked so slow whilst running flat out as Glen Little. Seeing him rip premier league lbs to pieces is still one of my favorite memories ever.

There was the occasional flash of skill yes. The OP didn't specify a threshold proportion of skill.
