MouldyRoyal
LightwaterRoyal not sure on the Kelly situation.

Was meant to be away with ROI but pulled out of that so presumably wouldn't be available for us either.

Not sure. He might not want to be away from his new family for 2 weeks in Ireland, whereas he can see them every day if he stays and plays for us.

Apparently we've only sold a couple of hundred tickets so far. With tonights farce of a crowd at the under 21's and Oman coming up, it's fair to say the marketing and PR guys at RFC are doing a spectacularly bad job at the moment.

We were going to go, but no alcohol, can't sit in the upper west (just fancied it for a change and prefer the concourse/access to food and drink etc), and no hint at kids starting which would convince us to go if we knew some of the fringe youngsters like Ugwu were starting.

I think the rumours of just a few hundred tickets sold so far aren't far off. They're not expecting more than 5000 by the look of that, and doubt they'll get it either.

As someone quite rightly said on Twitter earlier, the club haven't been pushing ticket sales for either tonight's England game or the Oman friendly. Even the BBC commented how poor Reading FC have been with pushing sales, and NO PRESS RELEASE for tonight's game. That isn't poor, that's embarrassing.

LightwaterRoyal Adkins has been mixing young players into training so we could see what Samuel and/or Ugwu can do in a senior side.

Griffin is our only left back as Bridge is injured and Cummings away, not sure on the Kelly situation.

Griffin plays for Doncaster Rovers

http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article/oman-adkins-050913-1038681.aspx

"Like I say it’s been exciting, we’ve had young players in with the first team squad this week. All the full backs are away, maybe young Griffin might play left back without too much expectation on him. Jordan could play left back, an attack-minded full back which is what we want.

"Goz and Dom are forwards, we’ve got Jake Taylor, Lawson, Tshibola, young Matt Partridge from a centre back point of view, several mentioned who’ve been involved and opportunities might arise sooner than you think."

Certainly suggests a few youngsters will play.

It's really very sad to think that people would have been more rushing to buy tickets to see a couple of new signings play but are completely apathetic at the idea of watching a few of the academy boys.

Got to take it in context though. Meaningless friendly, no alcohol, several players on international duty, no real incentive being offered by the club to go and watch. Season ticket holders should get in for free, or at least a minimal payment. Kids for a quid maybe? It's a good opportunity for families who can't go to too many games together, to go and watch Reading play at home. Unfortunately, due to a lack of marketing initiative and piss poor communication (I didn't even know the U21's were playing at the Mad Stad until this morning and most people I've spoken to said the same thing), we've missed an opportunity.

Whoever our commercial manager is and Mortimor-Zhika have had a shocker recently.

Back in my day there wasn't a big press announcement every time a game was on.
Now we're back in the real world we probably can't afford a proper marketing team. If you don't like it then oxf*rd off and support Aldershot.
The Premier League really has spoiled some of you lot...

That's not really the point. Fact is, we do live in an age of press releases and several different communication methods, some of which are instant. A bit of foresight might have seen the stadium more than one fifth full and that is surely the reason for hosting England U21 and challenge matches, no?

There is no doubt that marketing at Reading FC is not great. But seems to me it is pretty difficult to not realise there is a game going on that the stadium tbh
