What's your favorite away day/ground?

What's your favorite away day/ground? and why?

For me, i have always liked Barnsley - easy to get to, away pub and car park 5 min walk from the ground. The ground itself is quite tidy, open ended concourse means you can have a beer and fag at the same time - very few away grounds offer this luxury.

Good thread.

It's about 10 years since I regularly went to away games so I'm a bit out of date. Somewhere with a terrace would be nice - how many of them are left now - there must be a definitive list on the internet somewhere :?:

Fulham is good value, also Brentford (please tell me the latter is still terracing? Last time I was on terracing at the former it was when Kevin Keegan was in charge, think that was the last season before it got converted). There's something nice about train beers and a journey to the North of England too. Bramall Lane I've been to a couple of times and enjoyed it.

I always enjoy a trip to London, although going to the likes of Tottenham, Charlton and West Ham can be a little arduous on the tube. Brentford, Fulham and Millwall are always good.

Huish Park was great this year. For family reasons I always love going to the Riverside.

Crystal Palace and Bristol City have always been my 2 favourites. Although Brentford was good the season we went up.

You've got to admit, on the whole, Reading is a terrible matchday experience. Soulless and nothing to do around the stadium. Must make you appreciate away games more.

Yeah, definitely. It would be much better if there were more pubs and things to do in the area.

Yep, it's horrendous. Especially as a non local I can't imagine ever going to a home game again.

Big fan of Palace away, London trip is always good, enough pubs in the vicinty, added to the fact it's easy for a small amount of people to make a lot of noise.

Other than that, Bristol City is usually a lot of fun as well.

Green Never seen a professional football match in Bristol.

The Apple bar normally makes for a good pre match drink. It's not a horrendous amount of time away to get to, getting away from Ashton Gate is a pain and a half though if you didnt drive to the game.

My two favourite away days in the past have been Plymouth and QPR. Reasons why? Plymouth because of the good laugh all the way down there by train, away pub close to the station. QPR, same again, good journey by train there, then O'Reilly's for a few bevvies and laughs.

Birmingham, Old Trafford, Anfield, Grimsby and Portsmouth come close though. I've had so many good away days.

I used to love going to Ninian Park - terraced, and a great atmosphere under the tin roof.

Favourite current ground? I always think the City Ground is a gr8 away day - beers on the train, a "proper" ground with character, and some good pubs in Nottingham to be had. Plus only an hour on the train for me, so can head back to Brum for a curry after.

The Hawthorns is usually a good crack too. 8 minutes on the metro for me!

Ninian Park was fun, loved the (unused, when I was there) terrace in front of the home stand with all the rusty barbed wire and perimeter fencing!

But the pre and post match banter always had a nasty edge to it, and getting kept in the ground for 20 minutes after final whistle was tedious.

Wherever we win.

Had 2 great trips to Everton and Liverpool last year spoiled by the result.

Bristol City away for me as well. Easy to get to and an away end that's really easy to get rocking. Unreserved seating helps.

Plymouth is grim.
