Flat reading fans!

by carbek blue » 29 Sep 2013 21:52

We know our fans are not renowned for being the loudest, and our players have certainly not given us much to sing about, but c'mon lets try and change this. The Mad Stad is lacking in noise but not devotion and heart. We seem to have come to 'a kind of positive' turning point in our game play and results and would be great to show support we could be proud of! Any ideas to get all stands rocking?!!

Let the man speak.

Sometimes it takes somebody new to the forum to come up with a completely fresh idea that nobody has ever thought of before.

Sadly the song sheets had a shortlived effect...could we have a couple of songs in each programme?

Or maybe the lyrics on the big screen with Anton's head bouncing on the words?

I will probably get banned from HNA for this but here goes.

How about at random times in the games at the Mad Stad, as many of us as possible sing " Nellie the Elephant".

Heard this blasted out many years a go at the Reading Rock Festival (I think it was by Slade).

A real random song that we could have some fun with.

100% in.

Though does slightly contradict The Big Bad Wolf.

The first few games at home the atmosphere was better than usual. The tempo of the game yesterday was slow, and it transferred to the fans. Neither the team or the fans got out of second gear. We can be a lot louder and a lot more consistent, but our reluctance to adopt a number of chants used by many other clubs is a little annoying (for some reason we think we're better than that, yet we pay the price for being a lot quieter as a result...) Our fans are unimaginative, predictable and in fairness, half-arsed about making noise and introducing new chants, yet they're the first to bemoan new ideas as unoriginal. Footy fans aren't often original..

You don't need to be to have a variety of songs, and to put some effort in to sing them!

Birmingham had some crackers that we could use, but you'll only hear people turn their nose up because someone else sings them, and they prefer droning quiet chants that we have plenty of.

We should play music during the match like what they do in 'merica.

"Defence, Defence, Defence"

Also maybe have someone behind the goal with a megaphone shouting Spanish.

Hire the military wives and spread them amongst the stands?

That song they were singing... "all we need is whisky and gin(?)" that would be ideal. Sounded great, could keep that going, it's loud as well. Get a few like that in our locker and more will join in.

Let's face it, you have to be a bit of a moron to spend Sat afternoon singing rubbish songs at a load of chavs who couldn't care less about you.

It's to the credit of Reading's demographic that we're deathly silent at home.

Just gotta pick a really good song, that no one else sings, change the words and make it our own. My suggestion would be No Surprises by Radiohead, just faster.

But the aim of singing the songs is not to sing at the away fans but to sing at and encourage the Playe...oh yeah, good point.
