Jimmy Quinn and Trevor Trevor Trevor Trevor Senior

by Super Kevin Bremner! » 27 Nov 2013 20:58

Weird trivia, well I thought so anyway, but Jimmy Quinn is older than Trevor Senior.

The reason I find that weird, is that I associate JQ with being part of the catalyst for the modern Reading FC, and Trevor Senior as a longstanding member of the older, shitter (not less enjoyable) era that included the likes of Les Taylor, Jerry Williams et al, wearing skin tight shirts and shorts, which makes it seem like he should be LOTS older.

I remember seeing something bizarre like a Readjng 11 that had both Mick Gooding and someone like Stevey Richardson in.

That weirded me out a bit too.

Probs a tumbleweed thread, or maybe even a new thread for a couple of Hobnobmongleoids to slug it out with each other, but thought id share anyway.

Just don't tell me how old Ritchie Bowman, Trevor Horlock or Kevin Bremner are. That will make me feel old.

Jimmy quit playing at 41 I think and was already rather old when he left us

Trevor quit Reading at 30 years old and quit football at 32 years of age.

There was only 2 years between Trevor leaving us and 1995, which I have used as the base.

The age gap is 3 years... Hope this helps

You had to do that didn't you! You made me go and look up Ritchie Bowman on Wikipedia and left me feeling ancient...

Spin-off thread, who's the oldest player to play for Reading in the last 20 years or so, is it Quinny? Would have been 36 when he played his final game in 1997...

Think Keith Jones was also 36 when he played his last game in 2002, otherwise struggling to think of others who would have been playing for us past 35....

My memory of Trevor Senior is him playing in goal on his last game.

Did that actually happen?

Yep, in a win (3-1?) over Bristol Rovers in a midweek game at Elm Park. I think Steve Frances broke his arm or leg or something.

My memory is last Saturday of the season, 2-0 down just before half time to a northern team and we win 3-2 and he goes in goal at the end.

1991/92 season ended with a home win to Wigan ... are the other details remotely correct or was I reading too much Roy of the Rovers?

I think it was this game:

26 Oct 1988 Reading v Bristol Rovers W 3-1 League Division Three

It was both of those games. And he didn't concede a goal in either match. Compared to Jimmy Quinn:

December 95 H v WBA 3-1 win (Quinn conceded 0)
February 97 H V Bolton 3-2 (Quinn conceded 2)

Both are absolute heroes tbh.

Quinn and Senior two players that I would say most fans enjoyed watching. Was always sad that it did not work well for Senior when he moved on, had hoped to see him playing and scoring on MOTD like Dixon at Chelsea.

Can I add to this thread three more heroes from the past, Friday, Horrix and Death, all not sadly playing elsewhere. This tyhread got me having a google and found this.

Best keeper ever at RFC, and along with Shaka and Marcus, all worth watching for their talents and prescence on the pitch. All a part of great teams for us at their time.
