^ That last lot don't really count.

They were involved in our Academy but not for long enough to it really have an impact on their careers that we can claim any credit for.

Charlie Austin was rejected for example. Massive mistake.

Austin in the academy 1999-2004.
Wickham: 2002-2006

That's quite a long time.
Who's to say that Austin had other offers from clubs at the age of 10? Shame we released him, but if we hadn't taken him on in the first place then he might never have become a professional player. Therefore we can claim some credit for his career.

You can add Forster-Caskey to the list.

Still remember Madejski smuggly pronouncing that we had made Ashdown a very good offer and basically wishing him luck if he really thought he could better it elsewhere! Soon after, Ashdown accepted that hard to find offer.

And hasn't he done brilliantly since? Sheesh, we let go of a no mark like Jamie Ashdown who conceded a goal practically every game he played for us and has played about 100 games, if that, since he left and you have a go at Madejski. So he got himself a better deal, he also flushed his career down the toilet at the same time.

Before you go on about an FA Cup winners medal how many times did he actually play to earn the thing?

wally bassoon
tidus_mi2 I loved reading those tweets on the previous page, especially the one about not producing first team players when the list of former academy players currently in the top 2 tiers of English football is:

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Jem Karacan
Alex Pearce
Alex McCarthy
HRK
Simon Church
Simon Cox
Ben Hamer
Jordan Obita
Jake Taylor
Michael Hector

Took a bit of liberty adding Hector and Taylor to the list since they're bit-part players at the moment but they're not too far off, did I miss anyone?

How many came through between 1995 - 2005?
I can only think of
Neville Roach
Byron Glasgow
Any others?
And we were playing at a lower level

This shows how far the youth system has come.

Did he play in the Final? If no, then worthless. Players know that. Some chuck them away if they didn't play in the final.

I think it was David James that played, not sure though.

It was James who played in the final and the previous rounds.

I was trying to stop RB from using a medal from a competition where Ashdown didn't play as a way to justify his move to Pompey and attack Sir Mad.

Doesn't matter. He still got himself a much better offer when Madejski had scoffed at that possibility. And why do I scoff at Madejski? Because he has such a long history of talking big and walking small. What's more he never seems to learn. How many years ago was the arrogant (supposedly reassuring for the fans) Ashdown assertion? Fast forward to December 2013 and he is still at it with his assurances of transfer funding. As a direct consequence of him failing to deliver on that, Adkins is now trying to push for the playoffs with at least one hand tied behind his back. How many proven strikers at this level will he have available to him today? Absolutely laughable that a team is expected to compete for promotion from this league with such a dearth of decent strikers.

He did not play in the cup at all that season. That is why I asked earlier if he had got a medal

When did Madejski scoff at the possibility of Ashdown getting a better offer? The only reason he left was because Portsmouth were offering better money.

And why do I scoff at Madejski?

Because you are utterly obsessed
