I recall something like that for Primus, not Ashdown.

sandman And hasn't he done brilliantly since? Sheesh, we let go of a no mark like Jamie Ashdown who conceded a goal practically every game he played for us and has played about 100 games, if that, since he left and you have a go at Madejski. So he got himself a better deal, he also flushed his career down the toilet at the same time.

Before you go on about an FA Cup winners medal how many times did he actually play to earn the thing?

Doesn't matter. He still got himself a much better offer when Madejski had scoffed at that possibility.

When did Madejski scoff at the possibility of Ashdown getting a better offer? The only reason he left was because Portsmouth were offering better money.

And why do I scoff at Madejski?

Because you are utterly obsessed

When did he scoff? I told you when. And now Ian Royal has kindly reminded me that he took a similar view on Linvoy Primus' value. IIRC the issue with Ashdown was more the length of contract. Ashdown promptly proved him wrong by getting a longer contract and more money.

And why am I obsessed with Madejski if that is the case? Maybe, because unlike many, I can see that Emperor Madejski possesses very few clothes. In comparison to all of the talk, particularly in recent years, he hasn't actually delivered that much (and has got back plenty in return). I know his fan club will leap to his defence but there is no defending the way he went back on the most recent very public and very clear assurances of transfer funding.

I also don't think that he is a particularly likeable person. I'm sure I'm by no means alone in that respect and I suspect some of those who have had the pleasure of working for him would have some interesting stories to tell.

Change the record FFS

How did Ashdown prove SJM wrong? We said, if you can get a better deal best if luck and he did

Youre making it sound like Ashdown was pivotal to the team or that he was going to be. He was neither.
Plus anything that concludes that SJM was inferior to the Portsmouth chairman/men is laughable.
Epic fails.

Yeah but then you're also a grown man who likes reality TV and cheesy pop music... So maybe not the best judge of quality.

tidus_mi2 I loved reading those tweets on the previous page, especially the one about not producing first team players when the list of former academy players currently in the top 2 tiers of English football is:

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Jem Karacan
Alex Pearce
Alex McCarthy
HRK
Simon Church
Simon Cox
Ben Hamer
Jordan Obita
Jake Taylor
Michael Hector

Took a bit of liberty adding Hector and Taylor to the list since they're bit-part players at the moment but they're not too far off, did I miss anyone?

How many came through between 1995 - 2005?
I can only think of
Neville Roach
Byron Glasgow
Any others?
And we were playing at a lower level

This shows how far the youth system has come.

David Bass
Adam Lockwood
Alex Haddow
Philip Hadland

Exactly

Those four must have mustered up a good 20 sub appearances between them.

I must admit I had higher hopes for Lockwood and Hadland.

Darius henderson did not really come through our ranks, he was reales by Leeds as a 15/16 year old if I remember correctly.

Tbf Lockwood did go on to play in the Championship with Donny. The club just progressed too quickly for him at that stage of his career. Centre-backs can develop a bit later in their careers, something that I hope doesn't come back to haunt us if Hector doesn't sign a new contract in the summer.

winchester_royal Jamie Ashdown too

Still remember Madejski smuggly pronouncing that we had made Ashdown a very good offer and basically wishing him luck if he really thought he could better it elsewhere! Soon after, Ashdown accepted that hard to find offer.

 @ blaming John Madejski for not offering one of the all time greats Jamie Ashdown a new deal - just look at where Ashdown is now, and how much we miss him! You fickle fart.

To be fair, had Ashdown stayed at Reading there is no doubt he could have easily contested Hahnemann for the No.1 shirt. People mock him for the number of appearances he's made but let's face it, he had the potential to be every bit as good as some of the keeper's we've had over the last few years. IN fact in 03/04 when he had his run of games I'd maybe argue he was actually better then than Federici is now...

Bloke in the headband...worst player i have seen here all season
appalling all game
is he real?

He was hilariously poor wasn't he.

I think the headband bloke was Kasper Gorkss - he was useless. Infact the whole Reading team played poorly but Mr.Headband was head and shoulders above the rest in the crap department.

Progrebnyak was a close second and didn't have the excuse of only seeing out of one eye.
Wayne Bridges not at his international best ?

They looked handy going forward, but were poor at the back.

http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/94324-1-1-reading-post-match/

Both sides were a bit crud

It's funny how shit we played and yet we took a point away from home against a side just outside the play offs. Goes to show how bad this league is.

Poor performance against a very average side.

We were unlucky not to score two or three, but then again, Reading could feel about the same.

So, a draw is a fair result.

Ponegbrynak should be taking a long hard look at himself, because he was an embarrassment tonight. Player of his size and build should not be going down because a player breathed near him.

^ Thing is, at his peak this season, he wasn't going down at all - not sure why he's reverted to it now...

Last 15 was comical, Reading couldn't keep the ball in play and we decided to have a sponsored walk

Mahrez is the absolute bollocks.

^Not about Reading, but I do tend to agree

Thought you gave us a good game. It showed class what your lot did - the congratulations. Good luck for the play-offs, I'd like to see you in the Premiership personally.

^Whatever

Having said that, what did Reading have apart from set pieces? Not a lot at all. If they didn't get that goal out of nothing, I don't think they'd have broken us down all evening

Agree that Reading were only a threat from set pieces, they're very poor on the ball - would've been a travesty if we'd have lost to such an average side.

Surprisingly, the Reading fans were louder than I expected them to be (well the ones immediately to the right of the away end anyway.)

Only a set piece threat, despite the one on one mccleary zhould have scored and possibly the one jobi nearly scored.

which is as many clear cut chances from open play as I remember them having.
