I'm holding out hopes that if we get into the play-offs the players will finally realise they have a chance and the shackles will come off and they'll start performing like they can.

Important to remember that promotion only solves our finances if we make no effort to stay up and are tight with payrises.

I think the biggest problem with the Championship now is there are very few flair players. I just seem to remember there being more in seasons gone by. I look at the teams visiting the Madejski and haven't seen many players who can unlock a defence. However, most teams can be organised and defend well, and possibly sneak a goal from a set piece, on the break or from a mistake. Once this happens, many teams can defend deep and soak up pressure, and /or flood the midfield reducing space. We have certainly been victims of this many times his season; concede a sploppy goal and then don;t have enough in attack.

Adam Clayton for Huddersfield looked one of the best players this season, as did Ward for Derby. I thought Essou-Ekotto was excellent, as was Joey Barton, Nick Powell and Beausejour of Wigan, and I thought Lascelles looked at excellent prospect in defence for Forest. Fabbrini when he came on for Watford caused loads of problem for us. Other than those, I'm struggling to think of players who have stood out. It isn't surprising that so few players are signed by Premier teams these days from Championship clubs.

Which other opposition players have really stood out for you this year?

Assume you meant Assou-Ekotto? Thought he was very poor in the away game at Loftus Road and remember thinking that we could exploit him when Burnley had him on the ropes the previous week. McCleary's long range goal summed him up as he just stood and watched Garath take the shot without trying to close it down.

Agree with most of the others with Powell being the stand out for me. Will Hughes played well in what was, at the time we played the away game, a poor Derby side and I was glad when he went off early in the return game. As for his team mate Ward, thought he was good at the Mad Stad for the first 20 minutes but then Obita got a hold of him and he was less effective.

Mention for Grabban at Bournemouth, hope we can keep him quiet on Tuesday.

Agree on Assou-Ekotto in the away game (though only saw it on TV). But at the Madejski he looked total class and didn't think McCleary got a decent kick all game

Something that, apart from existing contractual agreements, is completely within our control.

Yeah he was alright in that one. It's probably just because I've never really thought that much of him.

Obviously there are some issues and big gaps for us if we go up. But personally I don't think

McCarthy
Gunter, Morrison, Pearce, Obita
Williams, Guthrie, Karacan
McCleary, Drenthe
Pogrebnyak

As an example is an awful foundation in terms of what championship teams regularly go up with.

They'll get eaten alive...but i get your gist.

With one or two exceptions...all of the above have only been sporadically decent enough at this level...let alone at the next one

If we finish 6th and it stays as it is, wonder how many times all 3 relegated Prem teams have finished in the top 6 the following Championship season?

None of them look like they'll get an automatic promotion place unless something unlikely happens but can't think of many occasions when this has happened - though I'm sure I'll get told it happens every other season.

This season maybe, but that's simply not true of most across their careers. And four of them have less than a season's worth of playing at this level to judge on.

I desperately hope Burnley get the last automatic spot. 1) because they are a small squad playing out of their skins with a genuinely decent manager and 2) because it'll be at the expense of Harry fcuking Redknapp and his band of millionaire pcuntwits.

Based on your philosophy....and my own attendances (2001 being an incursion into Wales)

Reading should be one lonely team at Wembley

Well having been to those 3 I shan't be there if we make it as I have just realised it is Saturday not Monday because of the World Cup, and I am committed to be somewhere else Saturday and Sunday.
