sandmanmaffffharry Didn't McD scout Kevin Doyle & Shane Long under Coppell?
It worked along the lines of.......
Pat Dolan recommended Doyle to Eamon Dolan who spoke to Brian McDermott as scout who went out to Ireland to meet with Pat and struck the deal re: Doyle, spotted Long and got them to throw him in on the deal before Coppell et al signed it off and sandman took full credit for McDermott at every opportunity.
That's more like it.

Extended-Phenotype McD's omni-meLOLtdown at Leeds at the very least confirms we'd be no better off with him than without him, unless of course we were entering a manager in the "who can get sacked the most in a fortnight" competition.

Isn't that how being CHIEF SCOUT works. He can't scout everyone simultaneously, he's not Sam Beckett.

So lets get this right.....McD fails at Leeds amidst ownership f*ck up and he's suddenly not worth considering seriously as a great replacement for what we already have, as this failure understandably does not ratify the idea we made a mistake getting rid of him in the first place."

floyd__streete Yep. Beckett leaps into a car-coat wearing scout sat in a dank non league football ground in the south of England. Bas Savage trips over the ball Beckett sighs "oh boy" as Nick(y) Hammond's name flashes up on the mobile phone Sam is holding.

schubert06 Well he is gone and here we must remain...
Will Nigel, when he departs, (and I neither will it nor portend) get a thread this enduring?

No. Adkins hasn't really achieved anything. The injury list, lack of investment and backroom shenanigans make it difficult to assess how much of that is his fault. I think he could have done better/more. But would stop short of calling for his head due to the uncertainty.

The most generous summing up yet of his 15 months in charge

Kinda depends on how long he stays and what he achieves in the time between now and then, don't you think?
He could be manager for 10 years and take us into European football. The odds are against it, but we've no idea what he might achieve before leaving.
