loyalroyal4life Robert Tan Net Worth $220m, mostly from real estate

Robert Tan built IGB Corp. from the small property developer he inherited to one of the country's largest landlords. Portfolio includes Malaysia's largest mall, in Mid-Valley City, and the Gardens mall. Shares wealth with sister Pauline Tan.

Perhaps they are interested in the land after all..

At last. People are now waking up to the fact that Phoenix might not be the only outfit interested in acquiring the club for purposes other than their love of football. We may have run away from the evil clutches of Phoenix only to be 'rescued' by someone no more desirable. What lines of business has the lady of the consortium been involved in?

Isn't Lacoste the douche who ratted Spacey into his employer?

If not - my apologies.

Nah, that was "Bring Back The Southbank" or something like that. Lacoste is just your low grade fisherman, think along the lines of a poor man's Kes.

Of course they are going to try to put up something. Philanthropy was never going to be their main reason for buying Reading. Building opportunities, proximity to Heathrow, ready made weekly audiences - those are reasons for buying.

My guess is that Samrit will look after the football side of things, while the rest of them take a good look at that big and empty looking car park....

Glamorous Thai mall? Why not. Just as long as they also sort out the football parking!

LOL- its business. anyone who wants to buy it will want to make something out of it.

half the people flapping about it now are the same people who were on at SJM for years for not wanting to throw all his money down the RFC drain

cant have it both ways

Actually you can, if you can find yourself a Dave Whelan type. Unfortunately it looks like we can't.

As for our current buyers, it is now looking like Samrit might have been something of a Trojan Horse, talked his way into pole position, on the basis that he was in it for his love of football, and then introduced the property people. Is his outfit going to be any better for us than Phoenix? It's perhaps not surprising that the yanks are somewhat bemused by the way this has played out.

Royal Biscuitman Could Reading Council step in and change the planning permissions for the club's land in the interests of the town? - If they wanted to that is.

If you can't use the stadium land for anything other than a stadium and parking it would make it worthless to anyone wishing to use it for other developments.

Likewise the training ground proposed, although that is presumably outside of Reading Council's jurisdiction

All the developers would have to do is apply to build housing on the land and, given the new housing targets that councils have to meet, they would almost inevitably be granted permission.

I can't believe that a developer would even consider building housing on the site. The cost of ground remediation and installation of suitable foundations would prohibit there chances of making any profit. A commercial facility on the other hand would almost certainly be profitable.

Are you sure? You can cram an awful lot of housing onto that site. How much extra work would have to be conducted that wouldn't be required for commercial property. And, as Strap says, planning permission for housing is virtually guaranteed.

Lacoste Have to love watching a bunch of below average Joe's discussing the why's etc of a multi million £££££ takeover from their three bedroom semi detached, or more likely their parents house

None of you have a clue so chill and wait to see who is involved/costed etc when all confirmed.

I think you seriously underestimate the business knowledge and acumen of some on this board. Just because people make work/life balance choices and decide not to sacrifice everything in their pursuit of endless riches doesn't mean that they aren't able to operate as extremely effective business people. I'm pretty sure there are some pretty high powered and successful individuals airing their views on HNA.

And a word of caution to others, just because Samuelson and Phoenix are perceived by most as the devil incarnate, doesn't mean that the Thais are saints with entirely honourable/philanthropic intent in relation to Reading FC.

Agreed  Except anyone who owns a football club is no saint and that has always been the case (including Ebbsfleet in 2007)

Can you now go back to SJM bashing so normal service can be resumed ;)

Dave Whelan? An exception to the rule?

A Gazzaesque challenge. Fouled the other player, broke his own leg in the process.

It's almost a metaphor for club ownership, Make a statement of your wealth by buying a football club, lose all you money owning a football club.
