Only 29, point to prove, cheap, lots of Prem experience. Ticks plenty of boxes.

He can't be any worse than the last Anton.

Does this mean we can't sing our "we don't care about Anton..." song?

bobby1413 Does this mean we can't sing our "we don't care about Anton..." song?

If so that means that our repertoire has been really depleted for this season (No more Alf and hopefully an Anton who cares)

That only leaves us with BLARMY

Good signing, should push hard for a starting spot when he's fully fit.

Excellent signing, offers the experience we need at the back. Massive welcome Anton and best wishes.

I think we should still sing it, and we can tell Anton we're talking about another Anton in another song.

In terms of experience he doesn't offer anything that Pearce doesn't offer. What we need at the back is a bit of pace and a cool head. No idea if he offers either of those .

When you look at the mistakes Pearce and Morrison make, then it's a decent signing. At least he should bring some much needed experience to the defence and to the squad, and if he's half as determined as he sounds, he should displace one of the current two when he's up to speed.

Welcome to Reading Anton. I for one think some may be being a bit harsh on you & you could turn out to be our shrewdest signing this season.

I agree.

I am ultra impressed by the signing of Simon Cox, Jamie Mackie and Anton.

Not based on performances, but compared to BEFORE the signings, I am hugely pleased about how it's gone so far. Did anyone expect a 2-2 draw (not only that but we performed well), and we still have lots to show, plus injured first team players battling to come back.

Things are looking alright which I think may be an understatement.

Offers experience = nearly 300 prem appearances. Played against the best in the prem ... Not sure our two homegrown lads can claim the same in terms of experience. And I agree with you we do need some pace at the back but right now Anton is what we have

Nameless The Ferdinands join the Webbs at the top of the 'number of family members at RFC' league.

Nah, we had three related Webbs (Anton has played just as much as Josh!), who sit top alongside the Hunt-Doyle dynasty and probably another family or two. The Ferdinands don't stand out from the Kellys, Keowns, Wagstaffs, and the cousins Ívar and Gunnar, to name a few. Do the Forster-Caskeys count? Or the Kuhls?

Yep - as others have said it seems more like a return to the Reading of old. Shrewd bits of business here & there without bankrupting ourselves. Add to the fact we are seeing so much academy talent come through & we could be in for a very enjoyable season.

I really hope everyone will get behind Adkins properly now. He deserves his chance & people need to back off & let him do his job.

Ian Royal Will happily admit that I'm not overly pleased by this but that my view is almost entirely irrational. Partly for the West Ham & QPR links, partly for who is brother is and mostly because I just don't like his face.

My only genuine concern is if this has been forced on Adkins by the Thais. Oh yeah, and he hasn't really played for ages and is obviously on the decline or he'd still be playing in the Prem.

Wait, wait, you are irrationally displeased because his brother was a world-class defender?

I am also irrationally unhappy. Every minute Ferdinand plays is one that can't be played by a player I have already emotionally invested in. Hopefully he's good enough to make up for not seeing academy graduates given a chance.

SIGNED - Anton Ferdinand

This could have some legs - there was the lazy journalism aspect to it in that he'd signed for Police United (owned by Samrit) but has since come out that they missed the deadline to register him, and he's been seen in the Directors lounge during the Swansea game today.

Shit transfer: I feel as underwhelmed by this as by the Martin Keown or Drenthe signings.

When will we get somebody good?
