Zana Badawi We have to give him a go. We cant expect to shift his wages off our books just like that. Doesn't work like that.

Err. hang on, we can't expect to shift his wages off our books by loaning / selling him to Wednesday who want him and are already paying a proportion of his wages, so instead we should play him and pay them all ourselves despite his abject failure here?

Assuming SW are paying anything towards his wages. Cant remember seeing anything from the club stating this. But hopefully it is the case.

UpThePrem Lots of talk on here and other forums about whether we should or shouldn't give Drenthe another go here. What do you think?

Personally i'd give him another go. Can't be much worse than Blackman or HRK.

Yeah, let's totally ignore how disruptive he is on and off the pitch.

GH Royal Any manager with his head screwed on is going to want to assess all players available to him, especially someone who is ex Real Madrid. I'm sure Clarke will be fully aware of Drenthe's bad reputation but bringing him back once his loan expires and taking a look at him before making a decision would be the smart thing to do.

The smart thing to do would be to ask Hammond, Dolan and co.

Which I'd imagine he already has, hence why I said he's probably aware of Drenthe's reputation. But at the end of the day he's the manager and it's his squad, he should want to take a look at him to see if he fits into his plans. Sheffield Wednesday seem interested and I'm sure they will still be interested if his loan expires and he comes back and trains with us for a week or two. Would still have over half the transfer window to negotiate a deal.

There's probably too much water under the bridge to being Drenthe back into the fold.

If there's anyway to clear his wages off the books I'd imagine Clarke will be looking to make it happen and use the money to bring in a genuine left winger or left back, probably on loan, to give us the balance we're missing with the poor form of Robson-Kanu or anyone else who's been used out there.

There is very little flair in this side

Wednesday wanting him is not the same as Wednesday being willing to pay for him/his wages. If they are paying anything meaningful towards him staying there, fair enough. If not, why wouldn't the new management team take a look at him?

Drenthe was at best a sh*t footballer.

At worst a trouble maker in the dressing room.

Get rid.

Would LOVE to have him back!

Imagine Guthrie pulling the strings with Drenthe causing havoc and the Pog banging them in! Roll on 2015...

Bring Drenthe back and stir the squad up. Might make them rise up against him and start acting like a team?

Personally I love it when he plays. One of the few players who I look for when he is not on the ball.

2 world wars, 1 world cup Drenthe was at best a sh*t footballer.

:| I can understand being disappointed in him, but there's no way Drenthe was shit.

I would suggest reading the section entitled "Adjustment and Anchoring": http://people.hss.caltech.edu/~camerer/ ... tainty.pdf

Everyone keeps going on about his disruptive nature within the squad, couple of observations:

1. This is the least 'team like' Reading side I can remember watching for the best part of two decades. (Drenthe hasn't been around the squad all season)

2. We're playing some of the worst football I can remember of the past two decades. Even worse than last season.

As Drenthe hasn't been here for most of the season and we're performing even worse than when he was here I'm not so sure his disruptive nature had as negative an affect as some are trying to suggest.

That said if we can get his sky high wages off the books then I'm all for shipping him out permanently, but I don't for a minute believe if we brought him back from SW that we'd be worse off as a team either on the pitch or harmony wise...

...and his sparring partner, Capt. Pearce hasn't exactly been squeaky clean during recent times either.

Let Clarkie, not the bean counters, decide

Not sure what Pearce has done ?

And these days it is essential the books balance, and managers are not allowed to chuck money away on fees/wages that we can't afford and don't warrant a place at the club. If the bean counters had been given more influence in recent years we wouldn't be lumbered with hugely expensive non playing vanity signings....

Wednesday vs Blackpool on Boxing Day:

Royston does this...

...and then this

Kind of sums him up. Absolutely no substance or end product. What a waste of talent.

the "will he-wont he" a couple of years ago?

Believe me, I'm no fan but, the "vanity/luxury/name" signings were exactly what we (fans) have screamed for at various times ever since we lost Steve Sidwell
