Dribble little shot at the keeper = shot on target, everyone wets themselves
Cracking shot against the woodwork with the keeper beaten = not a stat therefore ignored

It IS a stat. It's called a shot off target. I feel like you're struggling with this concept...

In terms of reflecting the game a shot against the woodwork is more significant than a weak shot straight at the keeper and a world of difference to a shot lasted 20 yards wide. Of course the artificial stats invented by Sky roll them all up into the same thing, but that reflects the weakness of trying to measure a game in numbers....other than goals!!

That's a problem with treating all shots on target as better than all shots off target. Not an argument that a shot that's only just missing is actually on target.

You will see shots that hit the woodwork recorded separately sometimes. But if you want to start recording the subjective quality of different shots so you can reflect that a scuffed pea roller is less good than a well hit shot 3 inches wide you've overcomplicated things.

Thanks for flagging that up, not just for that reason but also because I always look out for the Gillingham scores and tend to go to one or two games a season (though that probably won't happen this season). Good to see them doing well, when we're not... They're going to be there or thereabouts for the Top 6 this season. In fact I've heard it said that their fans think they can win the title
