I heard some bloke on BBCRB this morning moaning about the owners not buying multi million pound players and having no ambition to reach the PL. He has obviously never heard of FFP and so forth. Some fans really do need a reality check.

I for one think that the owners and SC have done a great job in this transfer window and now it is over to SC to get the new squad to gel together and to deliver.

Gotta be top six. But I'll settle for top half to get my dollar dollar bill yo.

Some people have no grasp of that reality you mention. And they also seem to think that it's their God-given right to expect other people's millions to be spaffed on overpaid players. I suspect it's the same people that moan about the price increase of a lottery ticket.

I think the Thai's and SC have been very shrewd this window. I cannot think of a time when we have brought in so much quality for so little net outlay.

Must be top six surely with this squad,

Just two weeks ago,Tim Dellor on Rabio Berks was saying he would have been happy with 18th, couldnt beleive my ears ... I was thinking we were top ten then and now with Vydra and co , top six guaranteed!!!!

Got to be 6th or above. Not going to be to gutted if not, but we've just matched our record transfer fee on a season long loan?! Not complaining but surely that means promotion this or next season at the latest.

If you look at our squad that finished 7th in 2014, missing out play offs on the last day, then we've got to be saying top 6, we're so much stronger. Once you get top 6, the play-offs are either a lottery or 3 cup finals, which we can't be too disappointed if we don't win.

On Vydra, I've not been so excited for a signing in my time as a Royals fan. Promising stuff

I went with 6th

I think this is one of the quickest squads in terms of pace I can remember

Win next Friday and move into the playoff's - other clubs will take note and the players will want to stay there. Big game this early in the season.

Your expectations

by Forest Boffin » 06 Sep 2015 13:40

Hi, I help write a blog following Nottingham Forest, and The Championship in general, and was hoping you would assist by answering a question about your expectations this season?

Now that you've had chance to see how the team is shaping up, where do you think Reading will finish this season?

If you want to give me a specific position in the table that would be great, otherwise you can choose from one of the following options: Top 2, Play-offs, 7th-12th, bottom half or relegation.

I collected similar information for an article before the season started (Reading fans 'average' expectation was 9th by the way), it will be interesting to see how this has changed for teams throughout the division now that the transfer window has closed. I'll possibly return in a few months to get another snapshot of your expectations, if you'll have me.

Thanks for your time and I'd really appreciate any help. Good luck for the season.

Given that we've added a load of players in the transfer window that we've not seen play yet, I think it's a little early to be asking that question.

I think most of us would be hoping/ expecting top 6 realistically or close to. Would be interesting to see what forest fans think there expectations are after losing some key players. I know this may come back to bite me in seasons to come but we seem to have formed teams without ever quite slipping into ffp. Even with relegation from prem and some high earners on the wage bill. Forest last year went for go for broke financial policy of spending big and hoping for prem and not making it, hence position in now. Will be interesting if middlesborough, derby and potentially sheff weds are in the same boat next year when it is all finished.

My expectation, given the squad post window, is a play off challenge at least. Where we actually end up depends how long it takes to gel.....

Cheers for your help so far folks.

Forest fans seem to be split at the moment - there is a strong faction that fears our owners are destroying the club - personally I don't think we're being run well at all, but it's not as bleak as many reckon. The spending that has seen us enter the embargo occurred BEFORE we went for broke last season! It was very much a case of paying too much on wages - then last season we spent even bigger to try to go up and shorten the embargo with promotion. It's a strange situation.

After losing Antonio it's difficult to say what will happen to us but the investment has ensured we have quite a lot of quality - our problem recently has been the managers not knowing how to use them once injuries have occurred.

I think teams like yourself who don't appear (to me) to overspend are in the best position.

Ian that's just what I wanted, thanks! I've been tasked with getting this information from quite a few forums and missed this - to be fair most forums did a vote in the summer and I've not seen one for this specific time until now.

Thanks again

With this squad the top 6 is the absolute minimum now IMO, and I think everyone connected to the club (the owners, board, manager and players etc) will feel the same.

Think you will find it will take a while for all these new players to slot in. I predict some iffy results up until xmas then a better performance after. All the loan players will not necessarily have the same committment. Not quite enough to get into top six. Final position 8th.
