Reading FC Homepage For You

by richiroyal » 25 Oct 2015 11:36

I'm a life long Reading fan and have been browsing this forum for years.
I made a website called http://www.zonkspeed.com a few years ago ideally just for myself to use as a homepage for my favourite websites.

I have found that for me it has made my browsing so much easier, so that is now why I want to share it out.

I have made some updates to make it cleaner and easy to use.

The main reason I wanted to share this with you guys is because I have added a separate theme version for Reading FC fans. If you are like me I like to flick around the internet looking at Reading FC websites.

The link is http://www.zonkspeed.com/readingfc.html

So you set this site up as your homepage so it loads up first on your browser. When you load a site it will open another tab and the homepage will stay open for you to go back to. (There are tutorial videos on there if your unsure to how to change your homepage) The Hobnob site is on there too.

At first you think not bothering with this, but if you try it for a few days you will see how I cannot browse without it.

I will be looking at improving the site further in the next few months.

I hope this is okay to post on our forum!

If there are things you think I can improve or would like to give me feedback please email me at Richard_ford@zonkspeed.com

Fair enough, it works well for me. Just wanted to share it with others who may also find it useful. All I can say is try giving it ago for a couple of days and then see what you think.

Wouldn't mind betting you make money every time someone clicks one of those shopping links and buys something.

I think you're right. The Amazon link alone has his username in the URL as a referrer

There is a couple of affiliated links built in but that is to support the maintenance costs of running a website.

I think it could be fairly useful tbh.

Would be good if there was a way to customize your own page so you have all the websites you use regularly on your homepage.

I find that regularly emailing yourself a list of the websites you use most frequently is of assistance, as you can be using any machine and can still access your list.

That would be something in the future I would look at doing. At the moment it just has the most popular websites. For us Reading fans though the Reading links are great to get all the news.

Considering most of us use the internet from work - why would we use this? - i mean, what if the boss wants to get on your machine....its all there for him to see and explore.

I use a desktop/laptop so rarely these days (work exempt) that I don't need a home page these days. Google does me, for the sake of having one. I have a quick gander at FB, Twitter (on a match day) and occasionally SSN app, and that's me online these days. The OP had a good idea tbf, but it's not for me, so I'm out!

Download Chrome >> Google will auto set as your homepage>> Add all your favourite websites to the 'Bookmarks bar' >> Done

I like the effort that you've put into your project, but you have created a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

I was going to say I'd created a similar site called www.google.co.uk

see this was exactly why I was getting confused earlier

...plus my biggest battle online is avoiding various rabbit holes
such as 'LOLcat' vids/reddit/hna etc

I have better things to do than spend my time on Reading FC related sites.
