Back From The Game: Cardiff (A)

by Crowbar6753 » 07 Nov 2015 17:50

Very poor performance, yet we still created plenty of chances. I,m sure things will get better and all we need now is a win to get back on track. The next two games should produce 4 points at least if we have any ambitions of being top six.

Al Habsi - 6 Did nothing wrong and no chance with the goals.
Taylor - 7 Thought he played well, one great tackle in the 1st Half.
Gunter - 5 Poor going forward and kept slowing the game down.
Hector - 4 A very poor performance, at fault for the first goal, and shaky all around.
Ferdinand - 5 Still getting back to fitness, not a great game.
John - 5 Should be capable of beating his man more often.
Blackman - 7 MoM The only one who looked like trying.
Alex - 6 Some neat passes, looked good on the ball, caught out a few times
Norwood - 6 Ok, a few good shots, should have imposed himself more.
Vydra - 5 Did he really do anything?
Sa - 6 Huffed and puffed, great play to create a chance for himself just before the break

We had a really good thing going! Why did we change it?

John's goal basically forced Clarke to pick him, but we should have stuck to 4-3-3. It's obviously our best formation. We could use Williams' attacking instincts to go alongside those two defensive players.

Taylor should keep his place, but Hector looked very nervy and didn't concentrate. I'd be tempted to stick Cooper in for next time.

NO, He may have tried but he shot every time he had the ball, he needs to be less greedy and pass the damn thing.

Hector was definitely marking Jones at set pieces and let him get clear for the first. Ferdinand was the closest defender for the second, Hector was busy hugging Jones to the ground for that one.

Injuries. While the squad looks good on paper too many similar type players. Which has resulted in a one dimensional formation. That's difficult to change.

No Ferdinand at fault for first - I WAS THERE.

You clearly weren't as noticed you've been posting on here since 2pm - please leave post match analysis to fans who were at the game.

In Ian's defence even if he wasn't there he was watching it on stream and probably saw a reply or two and better angles which fans there didn't get the benefit of seeing.

Ftr it was definitely Hector who first lost Jones and then got behind him.

This, exactly this. In some cases, watching online gives you a better a perspective and view, certainly for specific incidents captured on camera. Off the ball movement, positioning and overall shape, obviously much better to be there.

Now if Mid Sussex has some argument for why Ferdinand was at fault that isn't thinking he was the man picking up Jones, fine. I'm certainly open to that.

Would agree with Crowbars post and points given . Cardiff were poor and there for the taking today .

It is obvious that we miss Quinn and Tish and I believe that Clarke is desperate to find a winning formula without having to start our three fit centre midfielders. I think he does not want to start the three through fear of getting one of them injured. The best footy we have played this year is 4-3-3 with 3 centre midfielders not 2 centre midfielders and a winger.

Madness.

Agree with the rest though.
On Quinn I read somewhere that he told someone he'd be fit for the start of December now, which will be a big bonus.

We have three fit central midfielders, including the one who is most "different" from the rest.

We should be playing all three. 4-3-3 has worked, 4-4-2, so far this season, hasn't worked nearly as well.

I'm not convinced that any two of our forwards are that similar, except maybe McCleary and Hurtado, but that's besides the point.

I agree... It is madness but it is the only rationale I can think of as to why Clarke persists with john / mccleary / piazon as his 3rd midfielder. I hope you are right about Quinn

Surely Williams was on the bench due to fitness concerns, not tactics.

Assumed he was injured. Didn't even realise he came on. Presumably he wasn't fit enough to start.
