I'd be up for giving Garcia a chance but there has to be a severe question mark over the man's health - we really don't want to be doing all this again in 3 months time :(

If it turns out not to be Brian, a result I would normally be unhappy with, then at least the appointment not being made until after Saturday is for good reason, obviously David Moyes doesn't want to start his new job beating a club he still holds dear

As of right now Bergkamp is in the frame to replace Monk at Swansea which probably removes him from the picture here. So it will probably be either Garcia or Brian. Someone wake me when it is over and tell me what happened.

Top Flight Anyway, Bergkamp, we should just forget straight away. He might be one of the most talented and famous players that ever graced the premier league but that doesn't mean he has the attributes to be a great manager. The good managers were not known for their footballing abilities. Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho were sh*t footballers. Good managers like Pardew, Allardyce, Pulis were not the most talented players.

Bergkamp doesn't have the character to be a great manager. He is too quiet and shy to lead the diverse array of personalities that make up our current squad.

In any case, Bergkamp is afraid to fly. That immediately puts a ceiling on our ambitions. We certainly wouldn't be aiming to qualify for Europe.

Appointing Bergkamp puts even our championship status at risk. League One will be waiting for us next season.

With respect, that's a load of hogwash.

Steve Coppell and Brian McDermott were both quiet and 'shy'. They did alright. As for being afraid to fly putting a ceiling on us? Get real... firstly, he can still travel, secondly he doesn't have to travel with the team and most importantly, if you expect the next Reading manager to realistically have any chance of getting us into Europe and managing us there you're deluded. The earliest we could be there is in a season and a half and it would be unbelievable to do it that quickly.

We've got to get up first, then we've got to stay up. Once we've managed two or three seasons up and things are going well we can start thinking about European football, but unless our next manager is in post for an indefeasibly long time they won't be the ones managing any European cup run we might have.

Yep, your right.

Charles is very quiet tonight and laying low.

No tweets even when his beloved Arsenal are playing says it all.

oxf*rd up.

I'd probably go with they're all amateurs. Sky were reporting Clarke had gone to Fulham not that long ago. They're even quicker to jump on some speculation and tout it as fact to look itk when a decision is made.

Nothing hopefully - but he had to leave Watford for "health reasons" - just making the point!

The fact the article tonight was published was clearly a farce.

However, the appointment sounded very I'm,intent earlier as so many sources were reporting it - BBC Berkshire, the BBC website, Reading Chronicle and a few other places too.

Was the information wrong? Has something changed today? Is McDermott still set to take it and they're just finalising things? Guess we'll find out!

Seen on Twitter:-

@JinKhangura: @charles_watts I have heard that McDermott has been offered the post but wants time to think about it! Garcia in for me please!

If true, I guess Brian isn't too keen on taking on the job. Once bitten twice shy perhaps.

Can't find any odds on Readings next manager. Must surely mean a done deal with all bets suspended and as for waiting until after Saturdays game for an announcement is Brian being the gent that he is allowing Martin Kuhl his game in charge.

Not stopped him before and he has been tweeting most of yesterday afternoon but shut up shop after the Garcia news broke.

Anyone know if Garcia would be willing to wear a Brian mask?
