No Place for Piazon anymore?

by Slater1993 » 10 Feb 2016 15:17

Hasn't played the last few games and can't see him getting much game time now, gonna be behind Vydra, Kermorgant, Rakels and HRK. Don't see him as a winger as he offers nothing defensively.

The real reason he's not playing is that he heard his song and cut his ears off.

On his day one of our better players, failed to be utilised effectively consistently but and should have played an important role in a promotion chasing side.

As this season, in the league, is as good as over, there is no point wasting a position on someone who won't be here next season.

One of the very few players at the club who looks as if he can open up opposition defences. He has his shortcomings but he definitely has something positive to offer.

Gifted player in many ways, not least the beautiful goal he scored in the FA Cup against Huddersfield.
But . . . . probably not box to box hard tackling warrior we need to get us through the battle maze that is the SKYbET Championship.

Should have come on for Kermogant against Wolves. Ebanks-Landell is OK against a less mobile player. Piazon could have pulled their centre backs around creating space for Vydra. But we will never know.

Agree completely - unfortunately Brian continues to search in vain for that 'missing thing' when it might be right under his nose.

Some of our best play has been with Vydra upfront and Piazon in behind playing in his most natural looking position as the number 10.

Bringing Kermorgant in to partner Vydra as a more typical front pairing does mean Piazon appears surplus to requirements but I can't say I've been overly impressed with that switch. Hopefully he'll get a chance again soon enough, and take it, because when he's on his game he's quite decent to watch. My fear is that we'll see one of our less technical/flair midfielders (eg Williams) pushed into that role if McDermott wants to go down that route.

Kermorgant>>>>>Piazon.

Piazon can occasionally pull out the neat touches of a world-class player. But that's a luxury we cannot really afford. Kermorgant offers more for me.

Well I hope you're right, unfortunately I've not really seen anything from Kermorgant to really suggest he's going to bring much to the side.

I'm not too fussed, he has his occasional moments but for me he's more off his game than on. If he put as much effort into winning the ball back when he looses it rather than stamping and throwing his arms in the air he wouldn't be anywhere near as frustrating to watch.

For alll his occasional quality Piazon drifted in and out of games something chronic. In his last start against Weds (? ) he did basically nothing and we looked better when Kermie came on.

I think the hope is Kermie will be more likely to score and take some pressure off Vydra.

Plus Piazon probably isntgoing to be here next year, while Rakels and Kermie will. Obviously Vydra probably won't either, but if he can sort his head out he's by far the best attacker at the club. Piazon isn't.

Largely plays wide left and is an empty shirt again.

Far better than McCleary today though.

We were pretty much playing with 10 men once Piazon went off. McCleary was woeful
