Ronnie Blackman scored 39 goals in 1 season, he would head the ball and the goal keeper into the back of the net. That was in the days of real football, touch a goal keeper now and its a foul, but you can spit in his face or bite of his ear off no problem, so YKs whats gone wrong.

I think he is a very good player for this division but I think that applies to several of our squad who have not performed as a team for years.

We need players like Kitson and Doyle, whose strength and power makes them play like 2 men, as opposed to the talented passengers we currently have in the side.

Vydra really struggles to play up front by himself. His touch and stature don't help him in a 451. And in this era, if we play 442, the opposition play 451, sit back, don't give us any space and then pick us off on the break.

That said I think his workrate and passing is very good though,. i don't judge his finishing on this season as he has been under a lot of pressure and he looked very good when playing off Sa with Blackman.... but then Clarke's everyone up front formation got a bit exposed!

I have a lot of admiration for Vydra's effort and determination though, he's just wrong player at wrong time for me. Although right now, he is all we have!

I'd love for us to keep Vydra but I'm not sure we'd be able to afford him. Stranger things have happened of course but what Watford do in the summer is a big part of the equation, as is the amount of money RFC put into the transfer kitty.

I can see Vydra performing well under McDermott but, as other have said, it doesn't matter how good or bad a player he is if we don't play to a system that suits him or get him scoring goals. I can imagine we'd need to see a bit of evidence that McDermott can make both of those happen between now and the end of the season for us to invest the fee and wages it's going to take to get him.

I'd still stand by that (although admittedly he hasn't really improved much under McDermott so far) and I still find him a player who's good, and frustrating, to watch.

It all comes down to a) how much he'd cost, and b) whether we will build a team and a system that will get the best from him.

A new season and a fresh start might be all he needs to rediscover his goalscoring touch. On the other hand we might just be a club where he can't make it happen (Snowballs Forlan syndrome) in which case we'd just be throwing good money after bad.

For the price he's going at, we would be better off bringing in ALF who would score just as many goals but cost nowhere near as much.
