Ian Royal It's worth keeping in mind the distinction between immediately reinvesting in a transfer fee for a new player, which I agree we haven't done and the money going into the pot to be used to cover wages, other expenses and future transfer fees, which I believe we have done.
It's not like £ms have been removed from the club to SJM / Anton / the Thais. And we're certainly not just sitting on the cash.

Nameless not sure there is such thing as an order of selection at CB, who gets picked would depend on combinations and form not just sticking the next one in line in the team.
Nameless Well currently we've got McShane who,is a definite. The. We're giving Joey a go, but that might change to Cooper. Then we've got Jules, Hyam, Dickie, Gravenbirch and Keown in absolutely no order that is apparent to anyone. Keown may be ahead of Jules but earmarked to go out on loan. We might never select Gravenborch and Joey together because they are too similar so if McShane was injured the order would be different to if Joey was injured.
I don't think anyone is 5th choice right now. We've got a 1-2-3 by default then a bunch of others.

Watson was very decent especially considering it was his debut. Certainly good enough as competition/backup for Gunter. Which enables Gunter to be backup for Obita. I can see this being the state of things until we get another full-back in. Don't remember any academy player getting a decent run in the friendlies in LB position, so I'm assuming Japp doesn't think they are good enough to step up. I suspect he's looking for LB only, and is content with RB as it stands.
Obviously that could change if Gunter leaves. But he'd have to be completely bonkers to go to Hull in the state they are in right now, and I'm not sure if there were any other serious enquiries.

I must admit, albeit I am by no means an authority on the quality in our youth team, that Nana Owusu went. Was he not for a long time our starting RB in our moderately successful U21s team? I recently read somewhere that he was being advertised as a RW too?
The only game I saw him in was the game they put live on youtube and he seemed tidy.
As for our Irish fullbacks it seems clear theyre either not good enough for the first team or not ready. Both are bad signs..

Owusu was basically the Academy Andy Hughes, he had a goal in him and could play in loads of positions but ultimately wasn't great in any of them.
Griffin and particularly Long are real headscratchers. Long's basically Owusu without the wondergoals or versatility. Griffin's pretty ordinary.
Jules can play left back. Omar Richards is the next in line but he's only 18 and quite precocious (hopefully he gets time for the U23s this year). There's also the Icelandic lad, Sindi thingymabob, but I've never seen him play and he seems to be behind Richards anyway.
Edit: there's also Jake Sheppard who is a "proper footballer" but a) always injured b) lacking a clear position c) always injured.
