Royal Ginger
genome Seriously, some of you are just embarrassing.

At what point is a negative reaction to a 4-1 defeat to a team in the same league inappropriate?

Let me introduce you to two wonderful things called perspective and context.

1) Newcastle have millions upon millions of £'s worth of talent more than we do.
2) Contrary to the consensus on here (even though most RFC fans were talking about them breaking the record) after a shaky start, that talent will seem them challenge. It's no disgrace to lose to them.
3) It's Stam's 4th game in charge, not his 20th, we have won two of those matches, chill the fcuk out.
4) We are playing with a midfielder shoe-horned into centre back. And it's not like we haven't been trying to address that problem in the transfer market.
5) By all accounts, 4-1 flattered them. Harsh penalty against us just after half time.

I think what is funniest, is that lots of you were predicting a heavy defeat in the Prediction thread, and are getting upset when it actually happened.

Berry Can Hurtado be recalled from his loan spell?? Another winger may help our cause

I couldn't agree more.......realistically it was always going to be a home banker for the Toon ....and its a long old season ...we just need 3 team to be worse than us once game 46 has been played.......

Is there a need to be quite so condescending? Probably not.

I don't like that McDermott was sacked and feel that the team would be more stable and less susceptible to a large defeat at this point in the season. I have not written Stam off, i am leaning towards disliking him but have not made up my mind. I have however decided that i don't like the reports emanating from the radio regarding a 4-1 loss to another team in the same division.

I have always been a supporter and many would say an apologist for the incumbent. I have an iffy feeling about this one.

I would appreciate you being less unpleasant.

Stam interview:
'we were the better team'
'we're really pleased with the way we played'
'we gave away some goals from set pieces'
'it's nice to play in these stadiums and the smaller stadiums'

Generally proud of his team after getting spanked 4-1
Nice to see his support for the players but we shouldn't be happy clappy after that.

A 4-1 defeat to any team in the same league as us, regardless of resources, money spent this season, and size of club etc, is embarrassing and perhaps more importantly, pretty worrying. #wecouldbeintheshit

Royal Ginger I don't like that McDermott was sacked and feel that the team would be more stable and less susceptible to a large defeat at this point in the season.

Why?

There was nothing from last season that suggested he was steadying the ship in any way. We were actually getting worse, and the players didn't look like they cared.

FFS, loads of teams will get beaten by three goals this season. Probably most of them. Should they all be embarrassed?

Its ok stam has put his hand in the european tombola and has apparently picked another random defensive midfielder, already a journeyman and free agent at 23 and has been in trouble for causing a bad injury to another player... :| :|

I respectfully disagree. I thought there was improvement in the game if not the results and he was battling against a lost season. Sure, some games were bad like this, which is why i'm not writing Stam off, but on the whole i thought the ship was in the process of being steadied.

Probably not worth another pro/against McD thread though. We're all camped on our various sides.

By that result? Yes. It's a really bad outcome whereby the opposition has put you to the sword. I doubt many fans will leave a 3 goal loss thinking it was ok.

Geez, I'd grow a thicker skin if I were you.

I was as big a Brian supporter as any, as evidenced by many of my posts defending him and I was gutted and angry when he was sacked - but he's gone - time to move on now. Besides, you have no evidence for your claim. You're just basing things off a gut feeling, whereas looking at the facts it's obvious Newcastle were bankers - as per the prediction thread. We'll see in the future whether your feeling about Stam turns out to be correct, but for now, I'll get behind the boys, and actually give Stam more than 4 games before I pass judgement.

Anyway, the vitriol isn't directed solely at yourself. It's more the fans who, after two results (both away, one against the league favourites) are calling the team a shambles. It needs work, I'm not denying that, we need a centre back and striker.

I'm just bored of knee-jerk reactionary negativity, it's no wonder the team struggle with that kind of atmosphere around.

i know it's early in the season and no need to panick yet but Huddersfield seem to have made a far better fist of their re building in a budget so far it would seem. They have a whole new team :?

Honestly I'm just more concerned about the way we play. We are so week when attacked and you can bet your life Brightin will swarm all over us on Saturday when we try and piss around with it at the back.

Oh how I long for a British owner and manager combo.

Not basing it on tonight's result bus this season could be quite the disaster.

Even the Newcastle fans say they were poor tonight, as were the commentators.

Play well against Brighton and manage to get a result, like we did against Preston, tonight will all be forgotten about.

A bit like we forget about McDermott, until we lose.

Tbf LUX I'm just completely fcuked off with the last 4-5 years. No one seems to able to get anything out of the team and we just keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

Obviously it's too early to judge Stam, but really we got rid of McDermott and we still look like a bunch of pansies.

Can I just say it's not necessarily the result that's worrying, it's the warning signs of a poor team that we've seen all too often in the last few years.

Newcastle were not great neither were wolves.

A team like Brighton or the like away from home, playing with confidence and a high intensity and we'll be properly hammered. Like out of the game in 20 mins hammered.

It's more the warning signs than tonight's result and I don't think new CB will help. It's the way Stam wants to play Barcelona football with second rate players.
