Can't see the point in this kind of possession football, if, when we do make progress up the pitch it just bogs down.
Player with the ball has minimal short or overlapping options, so has to go long, sideways or back.

How shyte is that ref? Completely failed to spot that very obvious pull back on Beerens as he looked to break clear through the centre.

He's also penalised two clear good tackles by Cardiff, so he's an equal opportunities twonk.

And this is awful, toothless unambitious stuff.
Just waiting for the first defensive mistake to be capitalised on.

To be fair the ref seems equally keen to upset the Cardiff fans too!

Why would we be more creative up front if we got the ball forward quicker?

My first game I'm able to watch this season

Watching from sunny florida floating in my pool watching the game and a beer in my hand

The only thing to make it better would be a reading win

You implied we get bogged down because we play possession football, so I just asked why you believe not playing possession football will stop us getting bogged down.

On one of the rare occasions Al-Habsi hits it long, Kermogant un surprisingly loses out in the air to Morrison and Cardiff are immediately attacking us.

It's the slow, steady possession football that Platypus dislikes, it allows the opposition to get men behind the ball, get organised and be more difficult to break down.

More attacking urgency should in theory give them less chance to form up and get organised and us more chance of creating chances.

It does feel like I'm stating the obvious there.

We certainly need to work on attacking with more urgency, but that's that will/should come in time, when the players get more used to the style, and more able to anticipate runs and passes of the rest of the team. You don't need to abandon possession football to achieve it.

I don't believe for one minute Stam wants us to walk the ball up the field slowly, with little idea what to do in the final third as the other team's players have all got back to defend by then.

I'd like to see possession with a purpose; when we do progress into their half, I like to see quick, SHORT, passing up front, with pacy forward play and movement, midfield runs from deeper positions, overloading their defence. This way is just too easy to defend against.
I know we're a work in progress, but we just look so timid.

As if it even need to be said, I am not advocating long, direct play from back to front.

Here's the clue.

Can't see the point in this kind of possession football.

Platypuss Can't see the point in this kind of possession football.

So what you don't want to see is a style of football that isn't being played correctly, and is failing tactically as a result?

Who does?
