Nameless Ipswich had no more chances than we did in the second half though !
Still amazed that people are saying Blackett looked solid.
The passing is not aimless. There were two instances last night where we got utterly stuck with no outlet. There were many more where we played the ball around and suddenly things opened up and we moved forward. There were also a couple where we gave up, hit the ball long and found it coming right back at us. Moore knows how to play this way and if he can educate Mc Shane and we get Swift back in the side (and decide which of Obita and Blackett is less of a risk at left back ) it will click. But it's still new, and if teams are sushi get us you wonder why they aren't beating us....

John Madejski's Wallet Brenders, it is pretty turgid and one dimensional.
However, there are enough flashes (worryingly only when the oppo let us) to think it can be built on. Certainly with the new boys needing time to bed in, which I'm.happy to give. But currently it really is as tedious as adkins/rogers.
We have almost no attacking threat against an organised team, and 2 good wingers who are rarely able to get on the ball
We're gonna dick brum though

Maneki Neko Disagree jmw.with respect
And dont expect us to totally dominate every team for the entirety of every game.
Last night was the worst possible game to Base an opinion on.
Swift will be back in next game, and hopefully Samuel will start getting game time, giving us a little more outlet.
Work in progress. Needs consistency, and it will come with more games.
So far weve played better in most games, are winning our fair share.
Still think without a striker, midtable is as good as it will be, and we will have more games like this, wolves,Newcastle etc.
But its nothing like as dull as Rodgers/Adkins.(apart from last night)

Royal Rother Delighted with the result.
Happy to have a manager prepared to talk about his philosophy, with realistic expectations and an acceptance that it is a long-term learning curve for the players.
But really that was pretty awful to watch last night. Static and stagnant with fcuk all to get the pulse racing, just the occasional burst from Beerens.
I've heard the BBCRB crew call it tikka takka football. WTF...? That was about as far removed from tikka takka as it is possible to get.
I don't mind the passing around at the back stuff, waiting for the right ball - I understand that - but I expect to see some MOVEMENT in front of them giving options. So often the midfield were just standing still as Moore, Al Habsi & Co passed it between themselves. That ain't how this game plan is gonna work.
I am the eternal optimist so I believe in Stam, believe it will take a while for his vision to become reality and when it does it'll be great to watch, but right now don't try to convince me that was anything other than rather boring and pretty turgid.
JVDB was so obviously MOTM it made me sigh a little when Beerens got the award.
Moore and Blackett will be very good for us. McShane really doesn't inspire any confidence. Can't remember anything about Evans' performance at all.

Stam doesn't rate Samuel or most of our young players for that matter. That's why a lot of them want out.

Westwood52 Ipswich: Usual Chumpionship side- bit thick, but loads of effort-no strikers.
by Nameless » 10 Sep 2016 11:36
Westwood52 That was awful-three points should not deflect the need for change.I accept however that with only Kermit & Mendes Jap's options are limited in terms of forward movement and ingenuity.
Al Habsi: 6 Some good saves , some mishandling & a couple of poor kicks-often gave the ball way to his defenders in tight positions.
Gunter: 6 Usual 6 or 7 performance-defensively OK , but one of his poorest games going forward.
Blackett: 5 Not a full back ! Maybe cover at CB.
Moore 7: Probably MOM, Cool & calm under pressure-never a booking.
McShane 5: Bad start to the season from him-looked pretty basic at times.
VDB 5: The 1st half passed him by-got better 2nd half. Should have scored late on.
Evans 5: Found it difficult to impose himself.
Williams 6: Much better 2nd half-shouldn't he have been moved wide when Swift came on ? Great Pen.
Macca 6: Not at his absolute best , but not surprising given his flight time. Great Pen.
Kermit 4: Poses no threat.Too slow in thought & deed-but give him credit for chasing back late in 2nd half.
Beerens 7: Had his moments, but fades out of games.
Swift: The kid's got something.
Quinny: Usual 100%
Obita: One great cross-deserves a start.
Ipswich: Usual Chumpionship side- bit thick, but loads of effort-no str
Ref: Took him 95 minutes to get something right-the first two were not pens & despite anything McCarthy says his boys were warned twice about obstruction in the area-he had to give the third-how dumb were they !

Bob1871 Al Habsi - 8 made a couple of good saves, seemed calm when he had the ball at his feet
Gunter - 7 always seems to give his man to long to get a cross in
Moore - 7 looked solid, seemed comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, a couple of wayward long range diagonals let him down
McShane - 7 solid, again same as Moore looked OK on the ball
Blackett - 8 don't understand some of the criticism on the radio, looked good filling in at CB when they moved forward and was linking well with Beerena. Very soft own given against him.
VDB- 8 seemed to be everywhere in the second half, great to watch but he will pick up 15+ bookings this year
Evans - 7 from my angle it looked like he got some of the ball in the challenge but seeing again was lucky to stay on. That being said thought he was unlucky to be taken off
Williams - 6 gets the ball head down and runs in to trouble. Repeat this 6/7 times in the second half
Beerens - 7 had the beating of man every time in the first half. Nothing in the box to pick out
Mcleary - 7 looked dangerous in the first half and went missing in the second
Kermogant - 5 miss controls it and precedes to slate the pass. Flicks on to space that he knows nobody is going to be in and doesn't close down there defence. Our system won't fully work whilst he is in the team
