Pop up ads

by PistolPete » 30 Oct 2016 22:00

Is anyone else getting seriously annoying pop up ads on the forum?

I've accidentally clicked onto them opening up new pages so many times now!

Any way that the ads can be kept to banners?

Owners right of course, but no harm asking ;)

100% agreed - the site is really irritating now (aside from all the normal oxf*rd that is)

I already have a pop up blocker on my PC but it seems ineffective against these annoying intrusions. Fortunately it does not happen on my iPad so I only access the site on that or my iPhone now.

I get it on my iPhone (7- latest software) and my MacBook.

Lots of brown leaves cover the page and before you know it you're buying women's shoes from Asda!

I think I have opened up the George advert now about 100 times.

On a work computer currently, the entire background of the screen other than message box and main links is covered in a banner for some Ski resort.

What does this have to do with the team?

Surely you should be encouraging people to click on the ads. More traffic diverted to these sites such as Santander surely means good news for the running of hobnob no?

Agree it's too much. There is a balance between needing to generate enough funds to run the site and completely annoying users that you want to attract to the site.

I think it's the ads that take over the whole screen that are wrong. Static banners etc. are acceptable.

Due to (oxf*rd annoying) ads the team don't get discussed enough, therefore we can't confidently confirm who the escape goat is and, in turn, are not booing enough. Net result, sub optimum team motivation.

Or... there's no forum for 'air your grievances' so you pick the one with the largest exposure

Yep, they are annoying... sorry.

I'll try and get them turned off or at least capped so they don't keep appearing.
