Thoughts from a neutral

by Gabriel » 12 Jan 2017 23:49

Royals,

Commiserations on tonight, written up some thoughts on the game - http://www.TheFootbalLab.co.uk/2017/rea ... we-learnt/

Wanted to ask how often that kind of poor performance happens - have you played this badly when you've lost/drawn other games, or was it a complete one-off? Do you think the current good form is sustainable?

Be interested to get your views - all the best for the rest of the season.

A pretty fair assessment IMO.

However, Gunter has plenty of pace, I suspect he is one of our quickest players. He is also extremely fit and can produce great runs even in the dying stages of games, which has brought us rewards in the past. However, for some reason, he is not using his pace and fitness enough and as much as he used to in the past.

yeah good review that. Totally agree on the McCleary/Yann point - very frustrating when you can see that those 2 are causing issues yet we are just not getting the ball to McCleary enough. Been a theme of most games I've seen to be honest this year

Cheers guys. Think McCleary's the type of player you need when breaking a team down. On 2 or 3 occasions last night he accelerated out of a tight space and created an opening out of nothing. Midfield 3 more to blame than the front 3 for the team not scoring in my view.

Pretty generous calling Joey Van Den Berg a centre back.

In fact it's boarding on factually inaccurate.

I did say in my Player Ratings that he wasn't suited to playing there - http://www.TheFootbalLab.co.uk/2017/rea ... ld-excels/

If you can find a position where he doesn't look like a walking red card I'd be impressed.
