Reading FC Hall of Shame

by NewCorkSeth » 12 Jul 2017 13:21

On Football 365 recently they have gone through the Premier League clubs with the following questions. I thought it would be interesting for us to do Reading.

Worst thing that other fans think about them?

Worst thing about the ground?

Worst signing

Worst kit

That’s the important stuff done. Now, how creepy is the mascot?

Worst celebrity fan

Greatest own goal

Weirdest club shop item

Worst thing that other fans think about them?

I guess that we're tinpot?

Worst thing about the ground?

It's completely on the outside of town.

Worst signing

For me, toss up between Emerse Fae and Greg Halford, Fae wins because we at least got our transfer fee back for Halford.

Worst kit

Not that I was alive back then but there was that shit one in the 80s that didn't have hoops.

That’s the important stuff done. Now, how creepy is the mascot?

Kingsley is alright, Queensley I'm still unsure

Worst celebrity fan

Uri Gellar

Greatest own goal

oxf*rd if I know, can't name a Reading one, talking of own goals always reminds me of the Chelsea own goal.

Weirdest club shop item

Worst club shop item - I can remember going into the club shop and seeing a John Madejski replica dildo. To this day I'm not sure if it was actually on sale or the work of a prankster. I didn't buy it I know that.

Worst thing about the ground?
Lack of things to do before the match

Worst signing

Worst kit
Any home kit after 1938 that wasn't blue and white hoops

That’s the important stuff done. Now, how creepy is the mascot?

The worst own goal I remember was in the mid 1960's. Micky Travers out on the wing near the halfway line in front of the South Bank, decides to pass back to the goalie (Artur Wilke?) The ball bounces and sails over his head into the goal. What made it even worse was that it it happened to be one of - if not the - first game against Oxf*rd United, who won by one goal to nil.

I may be wrong but the Scunthorpe defeat you're talikung about was due to Steve Death running out to the corner flag, losing the ball and them scoring.

I think Chalkie's og for them was a different game

Yep, that.

There's a hell of a lot of ways to lose the lead in extra time of a play-off final, and toe punting the ball against a prone team-mates head is apparently one of them.

For me the weirdest thing about the club shop is how little there is in it. Half the store seems set aside for the tills, a quarter for London Irish stuff, and apart from that you're as likely to find a RFC babygrow or last season's rain mac (XXL only) as you are anything that anyone may want to buy.

Literally the best thing in the shop is Rusting Tin and Shiny Plastic, which is 10 years old.

Doesn't do much for the brand.

I went to that game the pitch was covered in snow, and for some reason it was played on a Friday night may have been the Grand National on Saturday clubs used to do that back then. It was our only home defeat that season don,t remember an own goal. Although I'm sure Chalkie did score a classic own goal it may have been away though?
