Best loan signing

by Dick Habbin's hairdo » 08 Oct 2017 21:11

So, in the hope of trying to keep it positive, as opposed to the "worst player ever," who is RFC's best ever loan?

Two standout for me:

Jim whatshisname..... Leighton - put in some great performances between the sticks in a pretty average team

Mr Media - you now, the bloke who pushed us to play-off..... bit too gobby for me but his nouse and experience was class. Jason Roberts.

Seriously?

Out of everyone you picked a goalkeeper who made a few appearances in the early nighties, and a player who wasn't even a loan signing?

Great OP. Really good work.

OK maybe not an auspicious start - however Ryan Bertrand is in my opinion the best loan signing we've had.

Matt Upson.
Him alongside Dariusz W would be my RFC dream team pairing at CB.

My shortlist would be:

Leighton - let a few goals in on Debut then was pretty much unbeatable.

David Lee. "centre-back" from Chelsea who scored some great goals.

Upson - Immense

Hahnemann - did great on loan to get a permanent move

Salako - see above.

I always rated Luke Chadwick, whilst he was with us, but he never really seemed to push on and make it big.

Omar Daley also seemed to have a lot of potential, but again, he never really made it.

Other than that, i would agree that Upson was the best quality player to have joined us on loan. Either him or Ryan Bertrand.

Though I have noticed a definite downward trajectory of our league position since Eric Obina left. Wasn't he on loan?

Upson, Bertrand and Chaloba were all class for us. Anyone remember Mark McKeever who we loaned from Sheffield Wednesday in 1999? He had a great loan spell for us but if I remember rightly, the £s Wednesday wanted for him was out of our budget range.

I will always maintain that this guy was responsible for the 106 season with that assist in the Sheffield United home game, to take us within 3 points of them at the top. Reading legend, as far as I'm concerned.

Now plays for Amiens SC in France. He's 31 now so was only 19 or so when he floated that free kick in....

Gets me thinking this one, how may other Reading players are there that are remembered - favourably - for just one moment on the pitch.
