It seems that it's the meeting up with friend and relatives that's the big problem. Reading about Singapore's approach, they really didn't care about people you'd passed in the street etc. It was just about people you'd spent time with.

In pubs/restaurants, it seems you aren't hugely likely so infect random other patrons, but you would be likely to infect people you are with.

Incidentally, looking at the odd report from other countries, the British population clearly don't have any kind of monopoly on irresponsibility

The spokesman mentioned a group of Thais who returned Friday night to Suvarnabhumi Airport and refused to submit to government-mandated quarantine.

Of 158 returnees, 152 ‘escaped’ from the airport after refusing to cooperate.

“The Prime Minister is not happy that this incident happened at the airport and we are working to ensure it does not happen again,” said Dr Taweesin.

“Because we have not received your cooperation, we must now go out and find you. All 152 returnees last night must come back under state quarantine,” he said. “You have put your parents and families at risk by returning home. If you do not submit to quarantine, you will face the consequences under the law.”

At least our numbers showed a fall in infections today. Time will tell if that's a trend or just a blip.

windermereROYAL It will be a hell of a party when we get going again for sure, but thats still some way off.

If it lasts a year or more, how many businesses in the entertainment/leisure industry will still exist after a year of no income?

In two months time people will have had enough, and the only things that will stop people going out are martial law or astronomical death rates, leaving them too scared to go out.

I don’t think we’ll need martial law...

FL has earmarked early June for resumption of the league season which will begin behind closed doors.

https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/spor ... --reports/

May or may not happen of course but that would seem to be the intention that clubs are being asked to work to.

Just cant see how that is going to work. The revenue lost would be massive. Clubs wont want that....and they certainly wont get the financial rewards.

I guess they are thinking that it could be that, or scrap the season, and that is the least worse choice.

Personally I'd rather they finish the season, and maybe have a short season for 20/21. Maybe split the divisions north/south with 12 in each (10 for the premier league) and have play-offs to decide the issues.

That is assuming that finishing the league would take us until maybe September/October.

Felt a pang yesterday about missing the Hudds game but still haven't touched a drop of football since OP and otherwise not missing it.

Interesting to see a number of older supporters on here feeling likewise and feeling the distance from modern day football. Questionable whether they will ever come back - but I reckon 8-10 good results near the start of a season will bring them back. Citeh managed to find an extra 25,000 fans from somewhere after years of dross.

If there is any footie soon it sounds like closed doors anyway … not ideal.

so that's a no to them coming back then.

There are three things that typically bring people into wanting to watch more often

Good results
Entertaining football
Good atmosphere

Unfortunately we've rarely had any of those three for a number of years now, barring the odd exception.

For the most part 1 leads to 3 and 2.

I'm missing the football but not half as much as I expected I would, and I really am not bothered about completing the season. This enforced break has interrupted the season for so long now that it feels like it's over. I'm not fussed about the remaining games being played. I'd rather the players get a sufficient break and pre-season and next season starts as per usual.

Reading won 2-1 v Macclesfield (Joao 2)

Remaining game is v Middlesbrough which I believe Reading have to win to progress to the 32 team knockout stage

Current status of the competition:

Tom McIntyre is playing as Reading

Latest suggestion being mooted (and it sounds like a typical committee “let’s not upset anyone” arrangement) is to both end and seemingly void the season.

https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/foot ... g-18182324

Would presumably mean quite a few relegation places up for grabs in 20/21 though.

So you promote clubs who haven’t earned it now on order to relegate clubs that don’t deserve it later ? While not relegating clubs now that deserve it as much as the clubs who are being promoted ?

If they do this there needs to be a massive sharing of the money earned at the top.

Void the 20/21 season, enabling this season to finish in a years time, promoted & relegated teams then take their place as normal in 21/22. Integrity of the competition would be intact at least

So effectively 10 games spread over a complete season, assuming a September/October start.
Same problem as most other options, that’ll devastate a large number of clubs with the massively reduced revenue.

Trouble is, there’s no ‘good’ or ‘right’ answer
