Nice to see we aren't the only club that Gourlay has flopped at

Sums the division up - on form you’d have backed Luton to win that

See our old mate Osho sent off for Luton late on

can’t find the definitive but it does seem to be violent conduct

Slight bit of good news for Reading in that Tuesday night sees the rearranged game between Burnley and Norwich played at Turf Moor. Reading should therefore be the fresher and hopefully Burnley won’t rest any of their better players against a team like Norwich. Also an extra game for Jack Cork to have to get through as he is 1 booking away from suspension. Finally Burnley will go top if they win.

If that’s correct he’ll miss the Reading game on 1 Nov.

Norwich's winless run stretches back 5 games now. 2pts from 15.

Smith may be in trouble soon if they don't pick up.

Coventry's run of 3 straight wins ended by a 2-2 draw at home to Rotherham. Cov needing an injury time pen to rescue a point.

Cork booked tonight so presumably suspended for Saturday.

Teams usually bottle it when they go top this season right? Easy win Saturday then.

Yes he should be. Shame Brownhill didn't get booked as well.

In other news West Brom announced Carlos Corberan as Head Coach late last night.

Anyone know why the EFL have allowed Coventry to play 2 matches less than the 21 matches played before the World Cup break( that is when their ground was playable why were they not told to get them played- might have been every midweek but surely weeks were available ?)

I suppose the problem with demanding Coventry replay these games in an already tight schedule for "fairness" is that it then forces the opposing team who had no hand in the cancellation to have an additional game in a packed schedule as well.

Yes that did cross my mind- maybe the EFL should have switched the home fixtures to away as soon as it happened but that also might have caused additional problems for the opponents. It does seem ridiculous that from January we only seem to have 4 midweek league games scheduled.

Coventry postponed 3 home games (v Rotherham, Wigan and Huddersfield) they then lost a 4th game (at home v WBA) for the Queen. If none were rearranged before the start of the WC then that would mean Coventry would have played only 17 league games whereas the remaining Championship clubs would have played 21 games (except the aforementioned 4 that would have played 20).

Coventry got their ground back in order at the very end of August but it was followed by the queen dying and an international break which basically blew September out of the water for being able to re-arrange games. Looking at October Coventry have played every Saturday and midweek except the midweek between 8th and 15th they are then playing every midweek up to clubs finishing for the world cup.

Therefore it would seem Coventry will remain behind simply because there aren’t enough dates to make up the fixtures (they may have tried to rearrange a game for the missing October midweek but have been thwarted by other clubs fixture calendars or by policing availability or something else). Their rearranged Rotherham game was played last night, the Wigan game is rearranged for the same night Reading go to Watford. This leaves 2 games to sort out which are now slated for 21 December (WBA) and 24 January (Huddersfield).

What I don’t understand is why FL have “wedged” so many games in before November and left many midweek dates free in the second half of the season.

I would guess that traditionally, weather has more of an impact in terms of postponements in Dec/Jan/Feb that it does in August through November.

I believe that FA Cup replays are still planned for the 3rd and 4th rounds this year, so in January the midweek of w/c 16th Jan is out. All other rounds have league games on in the Champ, so say we had a replay in the 3rd round & 4th round and got to the 5th round - we'd have 1 game to rearrange and lose 3 available midweeks (5th round is midweek again this year). Then say our trip to Sunderland goes due to snow on the 11th Feb and suddenly 5 midweek slots are taken up out of the 8 or so that are actually available.

I guess there's an outside chance of some games getting postponed once the championship returns before the world cup actually ends

Think clubs would need 3 players missing though before a game can be postponed? Will be interesting to see how many Championship players will be going to the World Cup. Reading could have 4 players there which I imagine might be more than most but would be surprised if any Chamionship clubs have 3 or more players still at the finals by 10 December.
