I'm sure you are correct, but iiirc we had 24 000 at EP v Southampton in around 1978, how did we do that (of course safety standards were non-existent)

I thought it was 27,500 v Southampton. But 1995 was pre-Hillsborough.
(assuming 1995 was a type-o?)

Sorry, this is winding me right the oxf*rd up lads. Sort it out.

Fixed. Carry on.

I've never watched it back, said I would if we ever go to the Premiership, but never did.

It may have been said before but only Reading could finish second in the league the year it was changed so only Boro went up after we finished second

I'll never forget Archie missing that penalty , that was the moment that hurt more than most as we'd have been 3-0 up at half time

I was traumatised, I remember I felt so low for weeks after

I absolutely despise the play offs , this was the catalyst for four other years of traumatic failures

I don't think I'll ever get over and forget that day that day .

I never watched the 1995 Play Off at the time. We were on holiday in France, so took advantage of Radio 5's reach to the northern shores
of Brittany and listened to it in the old Fiat Panda. We did sort for someone to tape it. Never watched that. Put it in its cardboard case, put it next to the Jon Pertwee collection and left it at that.

So, coming back from Leicester in 2006, couple of cans of beer from the corner shop, put the VHS on and finally watched the game in full.

Once is enough tho'.

...

As an aside, the other play off semi (Bolton vs Wolves) makes the 1995 PlayOffs almost peak football. We all know our 2 legs inside out, the other side of the draw is also a delight.
First leg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnw_brwMQI0
Second leg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnSTHLMs-ZA
Graham Taylor, Steve Bull, Peter Shilton in goal, Greavsie, ropey non-sendings off (here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onf8id6rxhY), the most lancashire man alive on the commentary.

Franchise FC Never, ever will I forgive McAteer for not getting sent off.
He’d already been booked, brought Gilkes down as he was preparing to shoot for what should have been his second yellow and proceeded to set up two, if not three of the Bolton goals

But I’m not bitter

I'm still incredibly bitter about him not getting sent off - as you say he went on to have a great game for them. Think it changed the game more than the missed penalty

Hardly McAteer’s fault if the ref is a numpty though.

My girlfriend at the time was a Bolton fan. Also remember having a final exam the day after so I was on the 6:30 train to Manchester the which got in 30 minutes before my exam.

Being a kid of 4 or 5 years old, don’t remember much of it.

Has anyone got links to the play off semis?

Horrible day. Being taunted by troglodites didn't help.

But totally repaid when they got relegated and we beat them at Elm Park, with Quinn in goal iirc.

Younger and sillier back then a bunch of us went round the ground after the match and mercilesly wound the sh*t out of some extremely angry and windupable northern folk for the rest of the afternoon.

Sweet revenge :)

Royal Rother I've never watched the Bolton game since the day, and don't think I will.

Much like Crisp getting beaten by Red Rum in the 1974 Grand National (after the greatest performance ever seen in the race) it still hurts. I can park that hurt but have no desire to make it fresher than it already is.

Daft really, I know.

Sorry to be pedantic, but that was 1973. He won it again in 1974 & 1976. Crisp was never heard of after that epic race,

I have just actually looked up Crisp on Wikipedia and it turns out that he ran 3 more races including another race with Red Rum, but this time with similar weights, and Crisp won easily.

You are of course correct!

My turn to be pedantic. :D Red Rum didn't win in 1976. His 3rd victory was in 1977.

1975 2nd to L'Escargot, 1976 2nd to Rag Trade.

frame rate makes it look properly old! Second half of this game was very good fun.

I had my bet on L’Escargot in 75.
My apologies for the 76 mistake, I just know we had Lincoln at home the same day that Red Rum won his third.
