It is still only football no matter how many negatives you put in front of it. Far better things to worry about.

Hopefully we'll have a manager in place within a week or two otherwise thats more or a worry than no players.

Why worry about a manager? It's only football.

We literally have no central midfielders and barely any quality out wide. Need to target these areas first.

It would be pretty surprising if we didn't re-sign NGW right? He's done just about well enough for us to want to keep him and not well enough for anyone in the Championship to want to nab him.

Sutekh On 1st July Reading's first team squad is currently scheduled to comprise the following:

  1. Nelson Abbey
  2. Kelvin Abrefa
  3. Jokull Andresson
  4. Femi Azeez
  5. Dean Bouzanis
  6. Andy Carroll
  7. Mamadi Camará
  8. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan
  9. Ovie Ejaria
  10. Sam Hutchinson
  11. Tom Holmes
  12. Tom Ince
  13. Amadou Mbengue (technically out of contract this summer but has a 1 year option, which I'm fairly sure the club will take up)
  14. Tom McIntyre
  15. George Puscas (off to Genoa if they get promoted)
  16. Mouhamadou-Naby Sarr
  17. Andy Yiadom

That's 16 left after Puscas goes.

Do we have an option to extend Dorsett?

What's the deal on John Clarke, Jamahri Clarke and Michael Craig?

We look pretty good at CB and RB for L1.

And if Matty Carson pushes on as the club hope when they signed him, we could have decent options at LB esp if NGW stays.

Yeah, think we are already close to being able to field a very very good L1 defence, with a lot of depth.

RB: Yiadom, Abrefa, Holmes
CB: Holmes, Mbengue, Abbey
CB: McIntyre, Sarr, Clarke
LB: Guiness-Walker, Carson, McIntyre

Could conceivably line up

.......................Bouzanis
........Holmes, Mbengue, Sarr
Yiadom, Hutchinson, McIntyre, Guiness-Walker
....Ince......................................Ejaria*
.........................Carroll

Not the ideal shape and very very defensive, but there's some quality there. Then a bench of

Andresson, Abrefa, Clarke, Azeez, Camara, Ehibhatiomhan, ???

Jahmari Clarke signed a new deal in the summer, but the wording to me suggests it was a one-year deal.

Don't think there's ever been public information about John Clarke's contract, but he is more of a left back than a centre back. Same for Michael Craig. Also no info on how long Stickland and Holzman's extensions were (not that either is likely to get selected with our depth of centre backs).

Dorsett had an option to keep him here this season - unlikely he has one for another. Same for Kian Leavy.

That being said, I'm not sure Abbey and Camara are under contract - their extensions only said "they will be with us for 2022/23": https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2022/j ... nder-23s-/

More than anything, we need pace - something that has been hugely lacking (Ince excepted) throughout this season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Holmes and Ince go - as they're saleable. I would love Ejaria to go, or at least play regularly.

I think that TMac will stay, although that is just a gut feeling.

Not sure re championship sides coming in for Holmes, is he that level? Part of a poor defence for 2 years and has his faults. Of the 2 locals TMac a much better footballer and ability to read the game and passing way up on Holmes.

Agree. Definitely get another wide player who is quick, direct and will get at players.

Agree on Holmes and Ince, I could see both of them being sold this summer. McIntyre might have interest from a lower end Championship club potentially, but I'd be hoping he would stay.

It's a squad that needs a lot of work though in League One next season. A few players from this season, but a lot of youngsters who probably aren't ready for the level yet and may need another season. Abrefa, Kelvin E and possibly Camara we can use though.

After these last two seasons you have to say if Reading can get shot of any of their defenders for cash then that's a bonus!

We can afford to lose one of Holmes, Sarr and McIntyre for sure.

Sarr preferrably, but least likely to have a suitor and least valuable.

Holmes probably preferred choice to keep but probably most likely to be wanted and fetch the most cash.

While McIntyre is the most versatile but probably least reliable fitness wise.

Hutchinson won't be going anywhere obviously.

Mid Sussex Royal Are all U21's except for those in the list out of contract?

Need to tie the likes of Senga down

Senga has one year to the best of my knowledge.

As does Carson and Giscombe
Holzman is 2025.

Loads unknown, Clarke, Stickland, Kanu, Osorio, Scott, Craig, Ehibhatiomhan, Clarke, Melvin-Lambert for example all announced when contracts were signed but nothing I can see on how long.

That's a relief re: Camara (and anyone else it is true for).

I think there will be interest in both Holmes and McIntyre, but probably not at a level that will tempt the club to sell.
