I agree with pepe that it's just too meek and mild. I don't think an on-field protest is right at the moment, but what that did was actually demonstrate our grit, the severity of the situation, it was a serious action - particularly for our fanbase who are not known for such things.

A half-empty ground, with a few thousand holding up red cards for 60 seconds just seems so ineffective. We're on our backside, facing relegation, extinction, a major crisis.

Sutekh What is the preferred chant, perhaps you could really catch attention by chanting something in Chinese.

比尔·奥迪用你的胡子擦我的全身

(translates to "Bill Oddie, rub your beard all over my body")

The bed wetters at SBWD are effectively saying to sit and wait patiently for the takeover

They should just admit they're out of their depth now they've exhausted all their publicity stunt ideas, all style no substance, probably run by meek marketing/PR types

They're carrying out research, finding out the best next steps, speaking to experts on Chinese culture etc etc

Why target Dai any more? Like others say he no longer takes any notice of the fans (did he ever?)

What he would take notice of is cold, hard cash (lots of it)

Therefore we need to target potential new buyers. How do we get their attention? As fans we probably can't (any suggestions welcome)

So should we just sit and do nothing? If doing stuff no longer achieves anything positive then perhaps we should (in the short term) as the cards will achieve very little

Agreed.

Complete apathy, that'll help.

Red cards seems too small.

A bit more unusual and different and therefore eye catching, but there really isn't much else SBWD can do without tearing up what little work the team manage to achieve on the pitch and making the players feel like not giving a monkeys even more, all while making the club less attractive to buyers. Sadly, even though some will argue it's the FL's fault in the first place for approving him, that won't stop them appying their rules if fans overstep the marks.

Well that's because it's not their fault.

And there is simply nothing we can do that will make any significant positive difference.

Great to see all the experts critiquing from their keyboards.
Not sure what is less effective - people at least trying to do something or people not doing anything other than slating the first group.
At least when this has all blown over some of you will have your post counts to keep you warm…..

Its a super tough situation, i attended my first Reading game in 1979 and have been hooked ever since. I moved to Canada 16yrs ago and now i'm lucky enough to watch all the games via Royals TV and still get up at 7am every weekend to watch the games and this weekend I'll be up at 5am for the Uddersfield game!!
Reading has been my life and to be honest, i cannot imagine a weekend without watching the Royals.....it leaves a knot in my stomach just thinking about it.
So if SBWD want to try and do something about it then good on them as long as it doesn't harm the staff and players. This goes for anyone else who feels strongly about their club....we cannot end up another a Bury FC.
I really have no idea of the best route fans and groups have to take but maybe filling the stadium with everyone showing their colors would send a message to potential owners that Reading football club has the potential to be a big club with a passionate fanbase with an amazing academy that has just put the mighty "Ajax" to the sword is something worth investing in.
I like the idea of the Chinese route but good luck getting into there secretive country but you never know!! maybe some journalist might fancy a new storyline. I'm pretty sure the Chinese are proud people and if Dai is lurking over there then maybe just maybe we can get to him.
Till then it's "Reading till i Dai"

This may sound hypocritical but I agree.

I and others are entitled to their opinion, and I hope that when I gave mine it was done in a productive and sensible manner.

I have just made the mistake of logging on to Twitter and seeing things like "SBWD are embarassing" and other things. These fans are doing this volntarily and have amassed about 8000 followers. They have direct links to the club, they've done huge amounts.

Let`s be brutally honest here, we threw the kitchen sink at it last season, no tennis balls red cards, marches or pitch invasions will make the slightest difference on Dai`s way of thinking, yes it get`s media attention but we`ve had that anyway from early this year, has it sped up the sale? a big fat no, if anything it could have hindered it.
It`s difficult to know which new routes SBWD can go down now, target him personally it could have potential grave circumstances.
But sitting on our hands doing nothing isn`t an option I`m guessing.

katweslowski It's interesting about the Chinese social media though.

China is 7 hours ahead of the UK, Any attempts to get things trending on social media for eyeballs in China to see need to take this into account, No point having the owner trending if everyone is asleep.

Can`t believe there are still kids over on twatter talking about going on the pitch, to quote one of them "To get media attention and embarrass Dai"
You couldn`t make this shit up.
Personally I don`t think it will happen but it will get nervy at the 18 minute mark.

what would you suggest?….other than the ‘butt-out of it’ option?

Enjoy what we’ve got, whilst we’ve still got it…..otherwise it’s just yet another que sera sera….and is out of our hands…..obviously.

Sounds a bit like the Pompey game, way back, when every man and his dog was goading them with 'this is your funeral'. Funny ol' game.

katweslowski A half-empty ground, with a few thousand holding up red cards for 60 seconds just seems so ineffective.

The red cards looked pink due to having ineligible white writing on them, However back in the Elm Park days the crowd were issued with red and yellow cards as part of a Uri Geller publicity gimmick where he guesses what colour cards would be held up, Anyway the fans holding these up during the game to show the referee their view of fouls was effective.

Also, when the entire ground held up blue and white pieces of plastic a few years back that was very effective.

I think we would need the entire ground at a packed game to hold something red up at the same time for it to be effective... pick an away team who play in red and the away end might join in, intentionally or not if they just happen to be wearing red replica shirts.

The writing was on one side and it was blank on the other. Fans were holding up either side rather than all the same side, that and the poor attendance didn't really make the most of things but no doubt they'll try again v Crawley (who play in red usually) on the 19th.

I'm not sure protests add much value now. We did it all last season, raised the profile. After the sale fell through, we got all the media coverage and political involvement again at the drop of a hat.

Protests have served their purpose and were successful. Now it's all about media coverage and political involvement to keep the pressure on Dai.
