Will be really interested to keep an eye on how he gets on.

Shame we've already played them at home.

Six months to sort Burton out, then he can take over from Ruben at the end of the season.

Jokull Andresson can now appear on this thread, having a mutual termination of his contract agreed with the club. I assume he will now stay in his homeland where he is/was on loan. Unless, of course, Bryn. takes charge at Burton Albion!!!!

With the odd exception (Olise) players really don’t seem to do too well after leaving us do they?

Holmes - sent off last game and mainly benched
McIntyre - has played consistently but Portsmouth bottom
Meite - still gets game time but a horrible goal/assists records since he left us
Rinomhota - career gone nowhere at Cardiff
Swift - done ok but surely not the success he would have hoped for at WBA - seems to be drifting out of relevance there
Abbey - played 58 mins in a cup game for Swansea and that’s it

Been that way for years - going all the way back to when the main players of the class of 05/06 left.

Saw the highlights package on Sky of the Portsmouth / Plymouth game (I was bored - don't judge me) - mostly saw McIntyre give the ball away then lose his man with a weak attempt at a header for the Plymouth goal.

That may not have been very representative of his overall performance of course, but I thought straight away that the curse of leaving Reading strikes again.

Done well since leaving...

Garath McCleary - becoming a bit of a club legend at Wycombe.
Gabriel Osho - played in the PL with Luton, now at Ligue 1 Auxerre.
Michael Antonio - a very good career in the PL with West Ham.
Jack Cooper - ever present at Millwall.
Jack Stacey - gone on to have a pretty good career, now at Norwich
Josh Laurent - became club captain at Stoke, now at Burnley

Same level as Bracknell (tier 7), they’re in the Southern Premier - Central.

Difference there is Laurent aside they were all pretty much released

There’s been others - Dickie, Fosu etc who have done well and played above our level. Other than Laurent and a half hearted attempt to keep Osho, we let all that lot move on

Dickie now at Bristol City and Fosu has peaked and is on his way back down the divisions having joined Northampton in the summer.

Fosu seems to be having a decent season, scored three and got two assists for Northampton in eleven matches - a goal involvement every 117 minutes.

Don’t think many were released, most chose to not accept new deals. We got a decent amount for Antonio.

We got fees for Antonio, Cooper, and Stacey. Osho declined a new contract, not sure if we ultimately got compensation from Luton but don't think so. The only one who was truly released was McCleary, and it's difficult to make the case that was a mistake.

We didn't get a fee for Dom Hyam.

Sorry yes, not wanted would have been a more accurate statement

Whereas possibly McIntyre aside, we seemed keen to keep the others (though I suppose could argue how keen is debatable)

It’s not even that they ‘weren’t wanted’. Players can chose to move on at the end of their contract, for more money, for more game time, for a tougher test, because they want to live somewhere else, because their family is elsewhere etc etc. If they tell the club they aren’t signing a new deal and leave we can ‘want’ them for ever but we can’t force them to stay. Average turnover at clubs is something like 30% of playing staff each year, it’s a mobile / fluid industry.
There are certainly players you could say we released and got it wrong (Charlie Austin for example) but it’s going to happen and even then we don’t know the whole story behind decisions, It would be interesting to be able to compare our performance in this area with other clubs, we certainly pick up plenty of players for nothing who turn out to be very good players.
