So as I understand things Reading will get an away game in the round of 32, this means they’ll get a trip to one of the following 7 southern section group winning clubs (excluding Cheltenham)…

Walsall
Wycombe
Charlton
Peterborough
Colchester
Burton
Exeter

The other southern section qualifiers are

Cheltenham
Birmingham
Wimbledon
Cambridge
Stevenage
Orient
Northampton
Swindon

And for completists everywhere the northern section qualifiers at the moment (based on current shorelines).

Stockport
Tranmere
Wrexham
Port Vale
Morecambe
Wigan
Bolton
Villa U21
Crewe
Blackpool
Huddersfield
Chesterfield
Lincoln
Rotherham
Bradford

U21 sides unsurprisingly failing to get very far again.

When you say again, last season 6 Under 21 sides reached the last 32. 2 reached the last 16 and Brighton reached the last 8 by beating RFC.

Saw on Twitter so no guarantee of accuracy and can’t be arsed to check but we’ve won 10 of our last 11 at home (orient being the odd one out)

Very impressive

27 (7) Efforts on goal, in reality it could and should have been 6-0 at least.

Memory says they generally struggle, think last season was the best they’ve had for a while. Personally love to see one (or even two) of them get to the final and see if it causes a meLOLtdown amongst the 3rd/4th division clubs for hijacking “their” cup..

windermereROYAL Subs have made a big difference.
Chem Campbell with two assists, hopefully he’s settled-in now.

His loan only runs til January (due to the embargo). Do you think we can/will extend to the summer?
debatable, there are plenty of opportunities between then and now to convince us one way or the other, his stats (if not his overall performances…….and popularity) are reasonable.
Regarding the embargo and being allowed to? not a clue.

He’s useful enough and signs of improvement

In our situation we were never going to bring in a top notch player. What we have done is found someone who can fit the system and the team ethic

If it’s between keeping him and nobody in Jan then I’d happily see him stay. If we’re allowed to look elsewhere for whatever reason then I’d not be unhappy if he didn’t

His determination not to stop playing and shout at the ref when being manhandled for a solid 5 seconds of dribbling which lead him to assist the equaliser on Saturday impressed me. Many a player would feign being pulled back to win a free kick but he realised he was in a dangerous position and persisted. I have warmed to him after that considerably.

I also thought in a very ropey referreeing performance i was impressed the ref played on rather than bringing back for a foul. However given the ref didnt show the advantage gesture its possible he was merely content with what was being played out, baffling if so.

Anyone know when the draw is?

I think there is one game in the Northern Section to be played next week so I assume it will be after that.

From Despair To Where? To be fair, if, and I accept that's a big if, but if we got to the final we could take 30,000+ to Wembley and that would be a decent pay day.

Do you really think that would happen if we played somebody like Morecambe or Crewe?
Are we that desperate for minor glory?

This isn't like the Simod Cup where we had beaten top level clubs such as Chelsea and Coventry and were due to play League Cup finalists Luton.

IMHO the club would make more money from further progress in the FA Cup and that should be the immediate priority.

So we should sneer at the chance if a reasonable payday because it's not as "glamorous" as an alternative, less likely one?

We as likely to get drawn away to Sunderland in the 3rd round of the FA Cup and getting humped.

No sneering , just don't think we have sunk that low that ANY bit of small time glory would attract as many as 30,000.
For money, have a real go in the proper competition of the FA Cup and you might get your bit of glory from success there (success being more progress and having a real go at one of the big clubs).

BTW I was brought up on Div 3 South and Div 4 football at Reading stranded at the lower levels but we are surely a cut above those levels in ambition now or do you see us as little old Reading still?

Anyway let's hope we end up safe in Div 3 again this season, we progress further in the FA Cup and for the sake of fans who want any semblance of glory we go ahead and win this trophy as well as the Berks & Bucks Cup.

I was brought up on Div3 and Div4 football but I think we should look to take every opportunity available to us.

I don't think we're above any level of ambition because we are where we are; a League 1 team on its arse with fcuk all money and a young squad that could walk for peanuts or, in other words, pretty much where we always were prior to 1992.

What should our ambitions be because mid table in the Championship is looking a very long way away at present.

As I have already made clear-for a mid-table 3rd division club it should be the FA Cup where so much more money is potentially available.

err, I am?

EFL Trophy would be a banger. No downside to losing, loads of upside. In 2001, we swamped Cardiff in blue and white vs Walsall. So yeah, I expect fans to come out of the woodwork.

FA cup better, agree, but also (a) more random in terms of quality we could face and (b) likely harder.
