Of all the L1 games tomorrow, I would expect The Valley to be less at risk than most. They have their hybrid-stitched Desso pitch and under soil heating (that unlike ours, still works).

I didn’t know our undersoil heating doesn’t work at the moment. How long has that been the case?

Reading have got the ball into the Charlton box a couple of times but generally the game seems to be bogged down in midfield. The aforementioned Small appears to be the likely source of any action for either side.

Generally dull cagey affair. Reading working hard at containing Charlton and have managed to keep things quiet but it is limiting the effectiveness of any attacking moves from Reading. Charlton are the better side and will no doubt up their game in the second half. Overall a draw would be a decent result, though while things stay all square there’s always a chance of capitalising on something somewhere.

Claims for a penalty at one end then down the other they’re offside and, apparently, the ref wouldn’t let Reading take the resulting free kick quickly because Charlton players were still celebrating in the stand. Can’t help but hope that’s the end of the excitement for today.
