Interesting read.

It is. Would have to question why Soton are taking out an 80m loan at 9% interest, Wham a 120m loan also at 9%

No wonder the company are loaded

Funnily enough, was going to go with the same reply. Either that or it's a few weeks yet until we reach 1 April.

I nearly fell for it, but it`s not in the Oracle toilets so it must be bullshit.

Hope this is it at least so the accounts get published, as the current mess means the FL prevents Reading’s ability to remain competitive into next season by banning the club from being able to negotiate and offer extensions to players coming out of contract in the summer. Surely the two parties should be talking on this and if there is a valid reason why the club can’t publish accounts then there shouldn’t be an embargo.

We aren't banned from negotiating contracts this summer.

Reading could negotiate with anyone but the club is banned from actually offering deals or extending existing contracts for any player, including those already contracted to the club, until the embargo is lifted. Everything would have to go to the FL, even existing players renewing on existing terms.

I'm not sure I understand how the potential new buyers can lend money to so many clubs. Didn't we once (back in the prem days with AZ) get in trouble for borrowing money from some company (was it vibrac?) who had also lent money to Aston Villa? It seemed strange to me at the time that we got punished for that, but even stranger now. Did I just completely misunderstand?

Lots of clubs borrowed money from Vibrac
In our case we were given a small fine because when we didn’t fully repay the loan Vibrac got involved in making decisions about the running of the club which were deemed to be ownership decisions and they had not been through the fit and proper owners test. Bit of a technicality and not really to do wit the lending of the money.
Ray Ranson made a fortune from Vibrac but can’t recall if it was his company or he was just their representative making commission.

How many times do we have to go through this? You're here more than enough to have seen it multiple times.

We can negotiate contracts, we can sign players.... up to a limit of twenty whatever with a professional appearance.

During covid clubs lost all their ticket money, and TV money was delayed for quite a while as everything went into hiatus. Clubs needed cashflow. Those loan rates aren't that high, I'd say they got a good deal. The chance of a football club defaulting on its debts, as we have seen time and time again, is not that low.

But hasn’t it also been established that we will have that number still signed on over the summer ? That’s a question, but I thought someone had worked out we had a huge number of players with at least 1 first team appearance and who were not OOC this summer.

Hunt is saying we can sign a free agent to replace Bouzanis which is interesting. Not sure what that means relating to summer activity - like you say lots of players with an appearance or two, but doesn’t seem to be stopping us now

No, because we don’t know what the youth contracts are and we only have about 5 senior players contracted beyond that.

Most if not all of the academy players who have featured this term for the first team are OOC in the summer; there's a thread on here somewhere...from memory there may be 3 or 4 unknown positions on the list.

Noel confirmed to the press yesterday that the embargo means we can only replace like for like (as an EFL exception) so as said above we can replace Bouzanis now.

Assume we could therefore offer contracts to get up to the required number but not until July (if the accounts aren't published).

We can certainly have contract negotiations in principle, and clearly the FL is being very flexible on the rule, see Campbell (twice), Bindon loan back, Bodin and now potentially a Bouzanis replacement.

But of course Sutekh is only interested in doom mongering.

So the actual answer is we really don’t know how many players we will have on 1/7. It’s somewhere between 5 and more than 5 but as we don’t have the relevant contract info we can’t be sure.
We may or may not be able to sign an unknown number of players to take us from where we are on 1/7 to whatever our permitted squad size is but we probably won’t be allowed to pay any kind of fees.
If the takeover goes through the above may or may not change, and this may also depend on whether our overdue accounts are published, and potentially what they show.
That should put an end to the questions….

I hope this all goes through because the anger and frustration that will follow another takeover collapse, especially one that seems so promising will be seismic.
