JR Some comments on hear on the lost profits claim and being outrageous as well as the £12/£6m escrow.

If we assume Couhig believes he has valid evidence of a breach of exclusivity, then I would hope we would all agree that a loss of profits claim his reasonable, as a breach of contract by the seller prevented him from owning the club and he wouldn’t be buying it if he didn’t think he could make a profit from it.

It therefore comes down to a forecasting exercise on future profits. £12m does sound very optimistic, but I’m sure they’ll have projections to support that and it will come down to a debate on what reasonable projections are (if the court finds there was a breach).

On the £6m escrow point - that wasn’t the club saying they agree to £6m of loss profits, more a negotiation tactic to reduce the potential downside for Dai and get more of the sale proceeds to him straight away.

Yeah, this is the whole point. Sticking money in escrow isn’t the same as losing it or admitting fault. It’s just saying that IF a judge finds in favour of Couhig’s claim, the money is there to cover it rather than “locked up in China” as Dai has been fond of insisting when bills need to be paid.

I have no idea why Couhig is a villain for this. He’s dealing with a crook. He wants compensation for foul play and he wants the potential funds secured. AND his persistence, stubbornness and refusal to let Dai piss people around might just be the thing that saves Reading from this scumbag.

If Couhig ends up our owner, I’ll be welcoming him and breathing a sigh of relief that our nightmare is finally over. If this other supposed deal turns out to be more than the bullshit it appears to be, then I will also welcome Platek. But I don’t feel any need to bear a grudge against Couhig. He might very well have done us a favour.

Couhig's a villain in the same way the FL are a villain. Some people have to have an external villain. Maybe because they backed Dai in the past and have to keep finding other scapegoats. Maybe because they've exhausted their anger at Dai because it's impotent, so they need to direct it else where. Dunno.

Then there's the people that presumably haven't learnt the lesson Dai's given us on overspending and resent Couhig's alleged plan to cut costs, something sorely needed if we don't boost our income sharpish.

I would argue that any claim that you can guarantee a profit from buying a L1 club is laughable.

Not overly impressed with the way Couhig has carried on and don’t think “not being Dai” is particularly a reason to welcome him as the second coming though he is obviously a great improvement on the current owner. Looking at it rather basically, RC negotiated his way to almost completing the deal but instead of waiting for things to be completed he started trying to take over and giving it the big I AM, totally ****** the ladies team over and essentially seemed to be laying the groundwork to shutting Bearwood down and forcing the men into training at Aldershot. As with any seller, at the end of the day, it’s their decision whether or not to finally complete a deal and just maybe things like that persuaded Dai to pull the plug on him and pay back RC’s loans in full with the accrued interest. The next thing is RC’s claiming £9.5m in lost profits  and while I don’t really bear any grudges against him either I’m just starting to think he could be a case of “out of the frying pan and into the fire”.

Anyway we shall see what happens and at least all these years of never ending uncertainty should finally all be over in 42 days - one way or another and that’s all I want.

If it is RC next then so be it, if he does decide to cut costs everywhere then fine, at least we’ll still have a club.

So Couhig buys the club for £15m, £6m of that goes into escrow pending the court case, Couhig wins the case, gets 6m back then flips the club for £20m. The talk at the time was of him trying to knock the price down and he's clearly got the inside track on the full state of the club.

Voila profit in the region of £12m. *

All because Dai played silly buggers.

I'm not overly enthused by Couhig but he does have a track record of running a football club in a reasonably responsible manner. He's certainly more appealing than pretty much every one else linked to the club.

* This is obviously all hypothetical but I can see it being a way for Couhig to claim a potential £12m profit.

Couhig is never, ever buying the club.

I mean, no one is, are they... Dai's going to 'do nothing' us into oblivion.

So will STAR own the new club, at least initially?

Nobody has mentioned guaranteeing a profit anywhere.

But it’s basic operation of markets that the vast majority of businesses get purchased because of an expectation of making a profit.

So if a judge concludes exclusivity is broken he will find in Couhig’s favour and award a compensation amount.

What that is will come down to how good the QC’s and arguments are.

There's no doubt Dai is the villain, but there is a supporting cast. Couhig's cares about his own pride and interests over a community asset. The EFL care about avoiding blame more than anything else. Howe has failed in his job of selling the club and treats fans with disdain.

If Dai is Voldemort, he's not been short on Death Eaters.

Everyone's favourite, Huang Kad, has just tweeted that despite the news, everything is going to be okay.

So, there's that...

Appears to be 41 days as Dai not selling by 4th April triggers a 30 day "warning" to 4th May - after that RFC will be disqualified from any football related activities with Dai at the helm.

I am not at all in the know, and don't know how automatic the consequences of this test failure are, but if the FL have any leeway then it is patently obvious to set the deadline to after the table is finalised but plenty of time before next season's fixtures, so as far as possible the final outcome doesn't mess with the league table or the organisation for next season

This deadline is just after the final set of games so basically confirms we'll make the play-offs right?

It would be the Reading way of doing things to make the play offs, get granted an extension, actually win the play-offs for the first time, and then get expelled.
