The last 9 games

by Mid Sussex Royal » 19 Mar 2025 18:38

I know its an odd number but given the break it seems a good time to take stock and see what's left; my predictions:

Peterborough H (win) they play an expansive game which will suit us, EFL trophy final round the corner too. Straightforward win.
Blackpool A (lose) horrible midweek trip somewhere where we don't usually turn up. Beat us easily too in home game.
Wycombe H (win) they need wins which will help us. Narrow win probably 1-0.
Shrewsbury A (draw) should win and they may be all but down but just feel a draw for this.
Northampton A (draw) they will be on the beach by then but its never easy there.
Lincoln H (draw) another side on the beach but they are similar in set up to Stevenage and can see a similar result.
Mansfield A (lose) for anyone not aware our record there is nearly as bad as there's is here. Just fancy one game where we don't turn up.
Bristol R A (win) they will be safe and with us still in with a chance a large away following will cheer us to a vital win.
Barnsley H (win) tight game as at Oakwell but we will sneak it 2-1.

So - 15 points which may or may not be enough.

I don't think we have the firepower to win many, hence all the draws recently. Shut down Wing and Knibbs and we struggle, and there just aren't enough goals in the side with a frontline of Wareham, Ehibhatiomhan and Campbell... or Akande and Camara.

Peterborough (H) L
Blackpool (A) D
Wycombe (H) D
Shrewsbury (A) W
Northampton (A) D
Lincoln (H) L
Mansfield (A) W
Rovers (A) D
Barnsley (H) D

11 points. About 8th.

If we hit 70pts I'll be delighted.

I agree that Peterborough’s attacking style could play into your hands, but I wonder if their focus on the EFL Trophy final might lead them to rotate their squad. Mansfield away definitely looks tricky given past results. 15 points could be just enough, but it depends on how the teams around you perform.

Barnsley could be a very emotional day if the club isn`t sold by then, will it be our last visit to the place if we`re out of the play-off picture?
I can`t imagine for the life of me that we`ll just leave quietly thinking well that was fun wasn`t it.

To be honest I'm not even really thinking about the last 9 games. If we're not in the playoffs and the club isn't sold then I could definitely envisage another pitch invasion if there's no progress on the club sale.

This has all been so tiring that I've almost become numb to it, Dragging on this long. But, this comment made me quite emotional - surely the Barnsley game can't be the last time we play at the Mad Stad....

It`s certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. it could be a very sad and sobering day.

Should it ever come to this, and god forbid that it does, tickets will be like gold dust. And that's not even accounting for the crowd that would be outside.

They won't be. We're also defeated fanbase who would go out with a whimper. The defiance mindset ended last year. I'm not travelling the length of the country for a funeral, wherever first game after a takeover would be a different matter.

Fair play to you bud. However, I happen to know quite a few that would turn up.

I can't seeus adding 10k to our attendance, but I'd certainly expect it to be up.

I plan on going.
