Pre season friendlies

by Crowthorne Royal » 10 Jul 2006 16:43

Why have we chosen to play non league and lower league sides as preparation for The Prem ? I know we are playing Feyenoord but everyone else is hardly worth turning up against except for fitness..
Bemused.

Lanna are the new real madrid
Gällstad are barcelona
Örgryte are

Seriously it worked last year and coppell likes to keep things the same.

We are not going to play prem teams because then they get a preview of our super team consisting of absolutely NO summer signings !

What bollocks. The first test will be on the 19th August at 3pm. Friendlies aern't about winning matches, just about getting match fit. If we lost every friendly and still beat Middlesborough, then I would be chuffed.

It's simple really.

We won't play Prem sides unless we were invited to some pointless competition in SE Asia (except for money of course).

So that leaves, a tour - more about bonding and fitness then anything - and away games at lower league sides.

Most of the top European sides ask a fee to come over and play which is not really financially viable.

Plus as RG30 said I couldn't give a fat one about who we play in friendlies. In fact the last time we went an entire pre-season undefeated, I'm pretty sure we were relegated that season.

Pre-season friendlies act quite well as a morale boost, if you really hit a team for six.

If the Saints played a Sunday League team it would be a test.

I think there's a difference between facing Didcot to Middlesbrough. Besides, for Didcot they'll be facing Premiership opposition but at the same time they'll be just as happy if they avoid any injuries like us.

Just for comparison, here is Middlesbrough's pre season

July 22 - Glasgow Rangers
July 29 - Sheffield Wednesday
August 3 - Athletic Bilboa & Cologne at the same time
August 6th - Feyenoord
August 8th - Heerenveen

No home pre season games

Bovered.

The pre-season loss at Farnborough last season (my lowest point of the season  ) didn't seem to affect us that much.

Just about fitness really.

Wow - they're so tough they take on two teams at once in pre-season games!

What can Rangers offer that Northampton can't? :D
And we've both got Feyenoord, be interesting to note who gets the best result against them....

So any ideas who we'll be playing this summer? We know Murts' testimonial is 21st July and we always play Didcot but other games? Will we stop going to Sweden now that Coppell has gone?

Swindon Town away? That game worked well a few years back and i can't see no reason why it wouldn't work again if similar arrangements are made.
