Token Cat Much as I love Kits, perhaps he should've kept his mouth shut.

Not really his place.

It's absolutely his place - if halfwit Lampard wants to write a "poor little me" book then he can expect some flak. Kitson is getting in early with the "primadonna" taunt - it'll be interesting to see how he now gets on in the Premiership. If his comments are a sign of anything, he's up for it.

He's winding you up.

Given that he has not yet started a Premiership match, I get the feeling that his outburst might not be taken well by fans, players, hell, everyone but Reading fans.

Other than those that agree with him.

But even then, I think the attitude would be "Yeah, Paul Kitson, I thought he'd retired. What right has he to say that?"

Does he care about that?

No.

I wouldn't be quite so sure of that.

I am 100% sure.

He knew he would ridacule Lampard, but that is on the basis that Lampard should have looked in the mirror trying to figure out why England crashed out.

Top players are more and more becoming over-exposed, commercialised etc, etc.

It should be all about football, the WC wasn't all about football and he's just saying what he felt

I doubt very much that he's bothered about comparisons with an ex-pro who shares the same surname.

In regards to getting stick from opposition fans, hmmmmmmm he's well used to that
Sticking a couple of goals in their net should help his 'sensitivity'

I think we (well, the side) may be in for a bit of a shock as to how much interest there actually is in Premiership football compared with the Championship.

A wiser head may have kept his lip.

That is all.

So you know more than a professional footballer about the 'interest' that the Premiership holds?

Don't make me laugh.

If one of the worst performing players in the WC could manage to keep is mouth shut in the WC only to suddenly come out with all the answers in a 18.99 hardback a month after the WC perhaps he shouldn't be too suprised when a few fans get a bit miffed.

Just so happens that one miffed fan is also a Reading FC striker.

It would have been wise in the first place for Lampard to accept his and the team's failings privately.

You can't criticise on one hand and expect not to be criticised back.

No. I'm saying that they might not be quite aware of it. Yet.

I genuinely don't care about that. I really, really don't.

I just don't think Kitson is helping himself by gobbing off now.

Best point you've made.

I reckon Kitson's one of about 3 footballers who actually knows what culpable means. Spot on. He's eloquent, intelligent, and a damn fine footballer to boot. He's just speaking his mind in a way that most footballers never could.

Take a boow, son, take a boow.

It's just occurred to me: Kits is an intellegent footballer who speaks his mind. If, in a few years' time, he sits down to write his autobiography it could be a corker. One to rival Claridge's boot room tales and Garry Nelson's My Left Foot (not to mention Eamon Dunphy's effort). And not at all the anodyne crap most of them churn out for not wantinf to upset their peers.

Top man Mr Kitson.

Im so pleased that people are finally starting to realise what a smug, self-obsessed twat Lampard is.

Ive never known anybody get so wrapped up in their own hype.

Would be well worth a read, definitely.

There is something great about his story - looked over when younger yet ended up in the premiership taking the long way round.

little bit worried that some of our players are becoming a bit ''out-spoken'' in the press, when perhaps they'd do better to keep their heads down and concentrate on the football.

that said, kitson is absolutely spot on.

As long as they give 100% on the pitch they can say what they like, especially if it's correct. I thought Kitson had a super game yesterday and long may it continue. I agree with the sentiments of what you're saying though.

If Warnock, or even Sidwell, had made those comments, I'm not sure whether the reaction would have been the same. The comments may be completely justified, but I'm not sure whether Kitson is a) has the right to make them or b) helps himself or the club by doing so.

On a), at the moment is not nearly the player Lampard is. If Malcolm Shotton criticized Coppell's management, we'd feel similarly. Kitson might feel that Tony Blair's economic policies are wrong, but I wouldn't applaud him for "speaking his mind" if he spoke out, even if he said what many others believe.

On b), fans who do the same at other clubs are often hated (e.g. Robbie Savage). Kitson already has a huge challenge of being as devastating in the Prem as he was in the CCC, and should focus on that. I'm sure Kitson will be singled out at Chelsea (and maybe other grounds). This may affect his performance, since he's often complained about booing by Reading fans, and taunts from opposition fans about his hair.

I don't usually come out and say this so blatantly, but what a ridiculous comment! Have you actually bothered to read the article?!

Kitson is not criticsising Lampard as a player, rather the fact that he's released a book a few months after England's failings at the World Cup in which he blames everyone but himself for their poor performances.

In my opinion Kitson is, as always, spot on. I can't see the paragraph where Kits states that Lampard is a rubbish player and that he is a better player than him. Dave's just outlining that instead of taking the time to write a book labelling everyone elses mistakes, Lamps should do some hard thinking about his own performances at the World Cup and take some of the blame for England's showings himself.

I've not read the book but have read some extracts in the papers (that may have been taken out of context), but Kits is right. The book is always about how they were told to train incorrectly, how he was given the day off, how he went on holiday after the season finished and didn't train until he met the England squad and as a result wasn't fit enough himself (somehow that's Sven's fault), and that the tactics were all wrong which is why he didn't score with any of his 30+ shots.

If Lamps is such as expert why didn't he put his point forward to the rest of the squad when the problems first arose, instead of pussyfooting around his own poor performances and blaming everyone else in the form of words in a book?

It's a Scottish regional accent.
