RoyalBlue There is a way of saying these sort of things and Mills clearly doesn't know it!

Perhaps the club should pay Murty to mentor Mills and check out what he is going to say before he's let loose with the media.

Interesting that things appear to come down to the fans and the manager rather than the players taking responsibility! So:

The team haven't got the results the fans wanted (what results did the players want then?)

and

The manager has a positive attitude towards the FA Cup which rubs off on the players (so the players didn't have a positive attitude towards it?)

In the past I've tried to give Mills the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his suitability as captain but after his bawling out of McCarthy at the weekend, I really do wonder why McDermott continues to feel he is the best player we have got for the role. If he really is, then once again it says something about the current quality of our squad.

^^^ This in a nutshell.

In response:

Reading Fans Fans want Mills to be less negative

Reading fans have on negative Reading captain Matt Mills to shut his mouth and concentrate on his game ahead of tonight’s huge FA Cup clash with Everton at Goodison Park (live on ESPN, 7.30pm kick-off).

Reading fans told the Reading Post that they have only heard pessimistic comments from the defender since he took over the captains armband, this trend has continued in the build-up to what is in seen in the eyes of the uneducated as being the club’s biggest game of the season so far.

Another giant-killing win for Brian McDermott’s side in the North West of England would send Reading into the quarter-finals for the second season running.

However, first-team captain Reading fans observe: “The only thing we hear from Matt Mills are negative comments because we have the nerve to pay our hard earned money, turn up for to watch a game of football and not read teh small print stating we have to be vocal and boost the egos of underworked, overpaid footballers such as Matt Mills.

“That’s not what we need. We need players who are strong enough mentaly to stay focussed on their game. It shouldn't matter if the stadium is empty or filled to the rafters with fans cheering their name. Despite what Mills may think, We’re looking forward to the Everton game and want the team to succeed as much, if not more than the players themselves and unlike the players, we're not in it for a win bonus"

“Last year the players went on that good FA Cup run and everyone was so excited, even though we were in a bad league position.

“But this year, the players seem to think they're doing alright in the league so they've focused their energies on moaning about the fans, Yes we’re in a better league position but why be so negative towards the fans? I don’t know what that’s about, but each to their own.

“The fans are fed up with this attitude but we still back the team, even though we can barely afford the bus fare to the stadium nowadays, never mind the match tickets. The fans are reaslistic in their expectations regarding promotion, However rather than see this as a no pressure situation the players seem to regard this as a slur on their ability - Well, prove us wrong then Matt Mills, prove us wrong. The fans are fans of the FA Cup and finally we have a manager who is also a fan and it's good to hear we no longer have players like Dave Kitson who couldn't give two hoots for the cup”

Reading fans added: “We’re driving all the way up, taking a days holiday from work and spending an absolute fortune to get to Goodison. It's a shame we can't afford to stay in a hotel like the players or Lenny Henry but that's the way it goes. We can't expect the players to understand how the other half live.

If you had commented on his mentality or technical ability fine it would be worthy to post it in here. Everyone entitled to their opinion, and football divides opinion, but i think you'll find that you have looked the pathetic one by bringing up the "looks" of a player. If you don’t want to be stereotyped then......

Mills' problem is clearly his girlfriend. Who wouldn't want an 'early bath' if she was waiting for you? He is also so tired during games, after spending most of the night before discussing Art and Philosophy with her, that he can't concentrate!! The answer to his problems are obvious - someone has to take her off his hands. I will, of course, offer my services and as a testament of faith in the club, I will waive my usual fee!!

ROY AL I dont think Mills has said anything out of order, anyone who watches Reading week in, week out and reads this board will know just how negative the 'fans' are. The atmoshpere at the ground is almost non existent at times. Some of the so called 'fans' are quick to jump in and have a go at players. Look at the abuse Long suffered - now he is the best thing since sliced bread, until his form maybe dips and then God help him. Get off the players' back, give them support not s@*t .

agreed- the whol epoint of being a fan, is to support and encourage.
if you want to belittle and berate go support swindon and at least have the negative affect on a rival team.

to actually boo our own players like mills, kebe, shlong, cummings and most recently church is oxf*rd abysmal behaviour.

and all this "i pay my money so get to behave how i like" rollocks is utter tripe.

WoodleyRoyal Is this bloke the worst captain the club has ever had?

Certainly the worst player we've splashed 7 figures on. I struggle to find anything I like about the bloke too.

He looks a bit like you?
