I'm not sure I'm expecting Gunnarsson to take up that contract.

Didn't he make noises about moving on early in the season? I think it will be more a case of wanting to play a bit more often in the last season or two of his career, especially if his deal is a pay as you play contract as some have speculated previously.

He could probably go elsewhere and get a two year deal to see out his career in the league below or one of the lower teams in the Championship. I could see him rather wanting that.

Perhaps him and Ingimarrson will both take a step down to a weaker local'ish club to play out their days without having to leave the area. If I were a Brentford, Swindon, Wycombe, Oxford or Chelsea I'd be straight on the phone tapping them up.

gives him a chance to persue his coaching badges here with us, while still getting a decent ammount of games at a decent level.
the contract terms should be ok, because we couldnt get another player as adept at playing across the back 4 or midfield, all rolled into one.
if he goes we'll need to buy 4 players!

not speculation- came from the club itself in a press statement

I'd hope he'd be looking into something on the coaching side. We're looking to build a "dynasty" of managers, he'd be a perfecty candidate to fit into this.

riverroyal According to this Scott Davies has been released

The few games I saw him play I thought he was a decent player

Scott Davies has gone to Crawley Town.

Ambitious club; wouldn't be at all surprised to see them do very very well at League 2 level.

I'd be surprised if Bryn stays. I can't see how he is going to get many games and his house has been sold for ages - he lives a few doors away from me. 8) Of course in a much bigger house than mine.

Great news about Ingimarsson, hopefully Gunnarsson'll leave too to free up some space to improve the squad.

One minute in. So close to becoming an all time Reading hero! Not saying that he isn't already, glad they have offered him a new deal.

Hoop Blah I thinks partly down to a lack of pace and composure at the back but also it's a major downside to the way we play. We don't look to keep the ball and so whenever you just play the percentages and look to get the ball forward you give possession away cheaply. If you do that you're automatically giving the opposition more chances to create openings because they see more of the ball.

I particularly agree with this.
However, with the impending departure of Longy, whose game was all about working the channels, it appears to me that Brian will have to tweak the system a little to compensate.
Of course, Brian can look for a straight replacement, but players who are as quick and mobile as Shane was do not come cheap.
Also it strikes me that if we are to retain Church, we also need to start playing to his strengths. Simon is Forster-esque, in that he plays right on the shoulder of the last defender. We need somebody who can "put him in".
If we retain possession higher up the pitch, as HB says, it takes the pressure off the defence as a by-product.
Mills, Pearce, Morrison, Cummings, Harte, and Griffin all have enough about them to cope at this level, IMHO.
Were I Brian, I'd be looking to spend any big money on a central midfield playmaker.
GREAT NEWS ABOUT BRYNJAR. !

Nope. I would keep Brynjar coz if we need someone to come into the side because of injuries or suspensions, at pretty much any position, you know he can come in and do a good job.
