According to the Chronic we are offering the likes of Long, Kebe, Mills new contracts.

So looks like the club thinks it can afford to keep them and it just depends on whether they wish to stay.

Or new contracts with higher "buy out" clauses so we can maximise any sales.

Good news either way if we can persuade them.

Hoop Blah Blackpool proved what though? They got relegated.

Our problem with wages was that when we came down we let plenty of them stay on their wages to hang around under Coppell to try and go back up. It was reported at the time of relegation that there would be a 40% wage cut across the board so it wasn't the Premier League that did for us but the willingness to keep Coppell and his big earners (and not slashing their wages of course).

So are you saying we didn't slash their wages as we said we were going to? 40% seems a pretty big slash to me!

From what's been said and implied that's right, we offered new contracts to the likes of Doyle and Hunt to maintain their wages and have them stay for a season.

That's kind of the way it's been presented but I'm not sure how true that is.

they proved that you can keep and attract good players even if you dont raise wages through the roof on promotion.
their contracts all had relegation clauses written in, and the real money was all in performance bonuses.
which is what JM will do if we do manage to go up again.

Attract and keep good players?

Aren't all their decent players looking to leave? Hasn't Adam had a bit of a sulk at not being given the chance to move on in January?

Blackpools season was made by taking the league by surprise after not really strengthening massively. They were underestimated and made the most of it but were ultimately found wanting because for all their attacking intent they couldn't defend.

Blackpool did nothing this year that we didn't do a few years ago, we just also managed to finish at the right end of the table!
