Lawro's prediction for our game versus Spurs; he might surprise us all................

Reading v Tottenham (16:00 BST)
Tottenham are looking for their first win. Manager Andre Villas-Boas is changing his team around, which is going to take time. That commodity is not something you necessarily get with the Tottenham punters though, but they need to show some patience as there are some good players at White Hart Lane.

Lawro on Andre Villas-Boas
"He has just taken over and changed the team. I really don't know what supporters expect. He's played three games. It's madness. Just give him a dozen games as I think he is a good manager."

Villas-Boas probably doesn't know his best team at the moment. Spurs are going to be up there but the longer they go without a win the more it will become a crisis. Although, in my book, there is generally no such thing in the first two or three months of a season.

Reading boss Brian McDermott is probably not sure if he has enough quality within his squad for the season. In particular, I would ask whether they have enough creativity in midfield.

But their manager is shrewd and, because of their Russian owner, they will have a chance in the January transfer window to change things around if needs be. I don't think it will be an issue of them being cut adrift by then, as there will be lots of teams down there.

Prediction: 1-2

No surprise at all then - a Reading defeat!!

His analysis is pretty good for Spurs; they ARE all over the shop at the moment, but ours is just lazy journalism, and most reasonable people would have thought that a draw or even a narrow Reading win might have been the conclusion...hey ho.

Tbf I'm very surprised with the amount of positivity on the match prediction thread - I said 1-1 and I thought I was being biased but only a few have actually predicted us losing. They do have many class players, and as long as they score more than 1 (which I think they will) the confidence will flood back to them

The comment about creativity in midfield is probably just looking at last season's pairing of Karacan and Ledge, which isn't (in itself) particularly creative. But then when you add in the quality from Jobi, Kebe, McCleary and Guthrie, I would say we do have enough creativity in midfield to give most sides in this league a few problems. Look at how good we were against Chelsea when we had our tails up.

Ian Royal Bearing in mind he's an expert pundit and ex-professional player, he ought to slaughter everyone on here who competes with him, over any longer period that a couple of weeks.

And pigs might fly

Agree with that.

I agreed with what Lawrensen said about Tottenham, just not the Reading part.

I know some think Lawro is a lazy pundit - I personally think he is disparaging of Reading too often for it to just be this, and that he doesn't like us - but one thing I think most of us can agree on is that he talks a lot of rubbish and is a very poor pundit. And that's not mentioning his relentless negativity and snide comments.

Just out of interest, how are you working this out? How much money is Lawro betting per game? Is he betting on the correct score? Or is he betting on the correct result (win, lose or draw).

i'll post the figures up when i cba but yes 'he' bets £100 on 1x2, and correct score markets (so 20 bets totaling £2000).

If his betting roll drops below £2000 i'll add the amount required and reflect it in the balance/ROI

The odds are taken from Betfair (at the time that i do it)

This week's offering:

Lawro West Brom v Reading
Reading were rolled over very easily by Tottenham last weekend, and it ended up being a very comfortable win for Spurs.
It was a similar story for West Brom, who had Peter Odemwingie sent off against Fulham, but were still well beaten.
So this is a good fixture for the Baggies to have as they try to bounce back. I think they will win, which will mean they can straightaway forget about last week and also stay at the top end of the table.
I am already concerned about Reading, however. I look at their squad and think they just haven't got enough quality in all areas, which is a real worry.
They are probably already looking towards the January transfer window to bring new players in but the problem they might have then is that, if they are down amongst the dead men, then who is going to want go and play for them?
Prediction: 2-1

Thanks for that.

I really don't like Mark Lawrensen. He never has a good word to say about us. Has he ever predicted us to win a game by the way?

Lol that's the most doomed prediction I've ever read!

3 games in, including 2 v Chelsea and Spurs. 1 of which we had a 25 day break before, and its...
Not only are we already doomed to defeat, but we will be looking to replace our entire team after these 3 games, they've been that bad, but not only that, who would want to replace them at such a doomed club.

Hilarious! In fact so comical I just checked it wasn't a spoof...its not.

Can't wait for Newscastle prediction,

Reading stole an unmerited 1-0 win at the Hawthorns last weekend and will surely be expecting drugs testers and UEFA match fixing officials now as its hard to see how that could have happened with their side full of journeymen I have never heard of. Expect Reading to be shut down by the authorities and Newcastle awarded the points by default. 0-3

What annoyed me is that he reckons Southampton will win and gives them a positive review yet we've been equally bad and he fears for us.

Equally? 6-1 v chelsea? Home defeat to stoke?

Their results were worse but strangely they somehow have given a better account of themselves with decent performances vs. the 2 manchester clubs.

People might not like it but I reckon it's a pretty fair assessment. Nor can you easily argue with his last point. If a club is amongst the dead men in January, it is far more difficult to attract people to play for it, particularly if the club is reluctant to splash the cash.

Both of these teams had hiccups last time out. Swansea were never really in the game when they lost to Aston Villa last weekend and Everton were a bit unlucky only to draw with Newcastle on Monday.

This just invalidates everything he has ever said. Swansea did have hiccups... however Everton seem to be churning out good performance after good performance. I'd hardly call it a hiccup to draw against Newcastle. Hoping we dont have to play them soon :?

The problem/reality check for us is that he has been quite accurate in his predictions for us this season. People keep going on about 'just 3 games' forgetting the totally forgettable performance against Peterborough. The fact of the matter is that things are not going as expected. There have been some positives but they are easily outweighed by the negatives. Unless our luck changes in the next few weeks, we will soon be seen, along with Southampton, as this year's whipping boys. I hate to admit it but he is right - there are too many areas where we don't have the quality to compete at this level, Too many of our established players are being shown as not Prem quality.

Paul Merson's prediction -
West Brom v Reading
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0
I thought Reading would be alright this season, but they were so far out of their depth against Tottenham it was scary. They played 4-5-1 at home to a Tottenham team that was severely under pressure and it played into their opponents' hands. So I've got to go for West Brom to bounce back at home.
