I wasn't terribly impressed with McCleary today. There were quite a few times when he was slow and ponderous, and a couple of times he'd not joined the attack when he could have done, and was way outside the box when the ball broke free there - in fact Pog was on his own up front much too much. If McCleary had attacked the ball more and got into the box more and taken a few risks he might have profited when the ball broke - but he seemed unwilling to commit.

Maybe the wingers were too worried about Spurs breaking to properly commit themselves forward - certainly, I though McAnuff wasn't effective today as he was too tied up covering back for Harte.

Ian Royal Not while we don't have a quicker, better left back available. McAnuff didn't create much today, or against Stoke, but he gave Chelsea plenty of scares and he'll do a hell of a lot more defensively than McCleary of Kebe.

Kebe's defensive game has come on a lot

Jobi just doesn't have the skill to beat a man. If we have to play 4-5-1 and have to play our captain then drop Jem put Jobi in the middle and shift Jimmy out wide

dont create chances, dont score goals

Did you see Chelsea?

He's got plenty of skill to beat a man. He's not started well and he's playing with freedom at the moment, but that doesn't mean he can't still damage team at this level. We're already struggling in midfield a bit and you want to play 5 across the middle with only one player who's any good at tackling!?

He's got skill to beat a man when running at them, as you probably remember from the run for the free-kick Guthrie scored from. If you get tight to him he can't do anything, sadly. Hopefully the return of Shorey today, and the slightly weaker opposition, will mean for space for him (and let's be honest, he needs a good performance today to shut the doubters up).

If it's true that Kebe is fit to play again now, I would hope to see him play against QPR on Wednesday or Newcastle on Saturday. To start him, or bring him on with 20 minutes or so to go, that's the question. I'd start him in place of McCleary to see how he goes, but that's just me.

Agreed. I'd start him. Take him off on 60 mins, and then hopefully a full game on Saturday

That's true to greater or lesser extents of almost any winger. And when he's in reasonable form (I'm not saying he's started the season very well) he tends to make good decisions about when to take a player on and when to play the ball to someone else in better space and retain possession.

According to Dellor, Kebe played really well today. Can anyone confirm this? Should he now start ahead of McCleary on Saturday against Newcastle?

Kebe more effective than mcleary in his time on the pitch. seemed to be All over the pitch. Fitness meant he faded in the second half but can't hold that against him.

Cheers. Kebe to start on Saturday it is then, for me, with McCleary coming off the bench.

Give Kebe a start and hope that Mcleary is as effective coming off the bench as he was against Stoke.

kebe- even if the crosses dont find their mark he gives us real threat, and causes chaos in defences, who dont know what to do with him

and he tracks back and works harder than mcleary

Kebe maybe doesn't produce as many crosses as McCleary might do when he plays but I would say Kebe is much more direct when running at defenders into the box. Its just his decision making sometimes but I feel we will get a lot of penalties through Kebe if we see more of those runs into the box.

Brian must have been listening to us. :D I thought Kebe had a good game and scared the Newcastle defense at times into doubling up on him.

I would say that McCleary has a better delivery than Kebe, but Kebe does get more corsses into the box. If you are going to play the percentages, then Kebe is more effective. Kebe also is far more direct and better at beating the full backs.

Todays performance alone showed why Kebe should start ahead of McCleary.

Kebe was alright today, wasn't having enough of a go at beating his man, but gave us a threat and scored a goal. I like McCleary off the bench, although he wasn't brilliant today.
