Platypuss IMO The only argument that holds water is one that says:

We won the Champ fair and square but with a style that would not be nearly as effective in the Premiership.
West Ham and Southampton, while not as good as us in the Championship, played with styles that needed less adjustment to be effective in the Prem.

So not really an argument per se, more a statement of the bloddy obvious.

Indeed.

Just as our best player this year was rarely as effective in the Championship.

_royal The relegation battle will be very tight, I wouldn't be surprised if we only need about 24 points to stay up as there are just so many teams in the shit

The lowest points survival ever is 34 for West Brom 04/05. 24 will not be enough.

The thought in my head keeping me going is that we have to play the following teams at the Madejski, and hopefully a home advantage could edge the result our way.

Sunderland
Wigan
Villa
Southampton
QPR

Win those five and that's 15 points, winnable away games in my view are:

Newcastle
Stoke
Norwich
Fulham
West Ham

Plus I'm sure we'll sneak a win against one of the other listed games..

There is hope if we can survive December and play the Jan transfer window well.. Albeit slim.

Funny how people are so sure QPR will survive now Harry is there. Like us, I think they're doomed.

They've played a lot of the poorer teams at home already & only got their first win today. Their fixtures in Dec & Jan don't look particularly nice either.

LOL. I bet the thought of Wigan, Villa, Norwich and Sunderland recently gave you hope as well.

And Southampton went and spent 27 million on top of that.
Anyway, my only suggestion is sacrificing the STAR committee to a dark god.

Well, it's not going to make things worse?

They're almost certainly down, but they've gained, what, 5 points on us in three games? They'll now be having their confidence fill up whilst our players look suicidal. I can't see where our next point is coming from, let alone a win.

If they keep closing the gap on 17th place at the rate they have been, they will be safe by March.

QPR will swap places with Southampton by Feb. They don't have enough about them to stay up! Wigan or Villa will go down this season, along with us at the bottom.

The reason I think QPR will not only survive but will be mid-table is

THEY HAVE VERY GOOD PLAYERS

I said a while back that they would finish way above us

LOL - them gaining on us doesn't mean much in the context of them escaping the bottom 3, but yes I take your point.

Villa will stay up. Stupid comment. Reading, Saints & QPR down (IMO).

Villa have a good manager and a young side that will improve.

Sunderland look quite poor (as we do, of course)

Newcastle are drifting ever lower

ATM my bottom two would be

19 Sunderland
20 Reading

and (ATM) Newcastle 17/18 toss-up with Wigan, Saints 16th, QPR well clear

But one thing that can seriously affect any predictions
(apart from January buys/loans)

is Players lost to the Africa Cup of Nations

anyone know the various clubs and who they'd lose?

Some off the top of my head:
Newcastle lose Tiote, Cisse, Ba
Wigan lose Kone
